It was a relief listening to this podcast, as Shaka reiterated how blessed he feels he is to be at a place like Marquette playing home games at a packed FiservForum, and plying his trade in a league that’s all about Basketball, all the time. It sounded really from the heart and not just about selling the program to recruits listening. I’m so grateful Shaka represents Marquette!
At the same time, when asked how the BigEast is positioned in the new normal going forward, Shaka correctly stayed upbeat while also correctly acknowledging the uncharted waters presumably of a potentially schism from the NCAA as we know it. We all know it’s a matter of when, not if, the NCAA as a regulatory body goes the way of the dinosaur. Can the BigEast survive and continue to recruit the best athletes? It remains to be seen. We’ve overcome enormous odds to stick it to ESPN’s requiem, so I wouldn’t bet against Val and the great people who make up this league.
Does Shaka love Marquette enough to help find MU a viable home if the answer to BigEast inclusion in the Power5+ is no? Let’s hope we don’t even have to ask that question. As Goose has stated, the program is in the best position it’s been arguably since the 1970s. I’m gonna trust that everything is the way it’s supposed to be, and just enjoy the ride.

Translation……he hoped for bigger jumps from some of the returning guys and hasn’t gotten it.

He had a scholarship he could have used but chose not to…….could we have gotten anyone as good as Omar? Almost certainly not…….but they could have probably added some depth………

It will be interesting to see if this experience changes how he handles similar situations in the future.

He recruited Amadou, Hamilton, Parham, and Owens.    If nobody leaves other than TKo and Oso, 12 scholarships are in use for 24-25

We all know it’s a matter of when, not if, the NCAA as a regulatory body goes the way of the dinosaur.

I know this is a popular prediction right now,  but I don't see it. I think the Power 5 er 4 (really 2) enjoy having the NCAA as their personal scapegoat and that they take care of all the minutiae that they don't want to deal with. I find universities don't typically deviate from the status quo as long as they are in power.  I expect even more conolidation of power within the NCAA but I think the NCAA persists
