MU 78, Rutgers 48

Written by: Emmett Prosser

Jerel McNeal had 14 points, seven assists and seven steals, leading Marquette to an easy 78-48 victory over Rutgers Saturday afternoon at the Bradley Center.

Marquette shot an impressive 56% from the floor as McNeal led four MU starters in double figuers. Lazar Hayward had 15 points, Dominic James had 13 points and Wesley Matthews added 12.   Marquette scored 35 points in transition and shot 65.5% in the second half.

After shooting 52% in the first half, Rutgers came out of the locker room ice cold. MU held Rutgers to four points in the first eight minutes of the second half and the Scarlet Knights scored only 19 points in the final 20 minutes.

It was the fourth straight Big East victory for the Golden Eagles.

Marquette travels to Villanova Monday. The Wildcats defeated co-Big East leader Connecticut on Saturday.
