Mark got in touch with 11 different people and did over 9 hours of interviews to get the full story of what has helped make Nevada Smith the offensive coordinator he is today. It's a long, but extremely fun read.

Great article.   Answers questions about...

Why doesn't MU run more set plays?
What is going to happen when MU need a bucket?

The offense is concepts, read and react, and trust.

My question...why doesn't Marquette prioritize shooting more? The offense is getting good shots.

That is what it is designed to do.  Shots at the rim and open 3's.   Hopefully, Stevie and Sean turned the corner against Creighton and Kam regains his touch.

Agreed.

Kon would've been a MASSIVE get.  As would Milan who ended up at ISU.

Watching Mason Miller shoot it the other day, couldn't help but think if MU had a guy like that in this offense... man oh man.

Other than Ben, Shaka has not signed a good shooter, mostly kids that drive to the hole, it would be nice to get one of them.

We have plenty of "good" shooters. Just no "knock-down" Markus / Sam types.

Yep. Once Kam gets it going again things will pick up. Saturday would be a good time for that.

To be fair those guys were once in a generation and are 1 & 4 on our all time list. I'd be happy with an Acker or Rowsey from outside. Right now we have Jake Thomas.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Great article. Makes me enjoy and have higher hopes (expectations, even) for this season, knowing that the Big 3 won't be around next year; it's clear that even Nevada himself sees Kolek as key.

I guess I/we will also have to get ready for the day that Nevada moves on. If Adrian Autry doesn't work out in Syracuse, that might be a place for Nevada.

I mean, Kolek is a pretty dang good shooter and Shaka signed him.

I think he might be destined for an NBA assistant bench before being a head coach in college. He doesn't seem to recruit.

Great article, I love learning the backstory and history of people associated with the program.  Mix in some philosophy breakdown and a few specifics, and this was the whole package.   Thanks for sharing!

Hmm. I wonder. I took from the article that he was looking to get back to the college game while in the pros. I suppose he could prefer to be an assistant in the NBA more than a head coach in college. Or, maybe he'll stay happy as Shaka's offensive guru at MU for years to come!

G-League no continuation as players got developed and team depleted. So in a way for doing your job you get penalized.

True, and that came out in the article. My sense was that in wanting to leave the G-league, he preferred college to the NBA. That's part of my thinking that he might prefer to stay in the college ranks rather than move to the NBA. But what do I know? I'm glad to have him at MU.

Dr. Blackheart

Great article. Exciting philosophy and journey. Interesting about the back and forth with Shaka.

What was not answered is how to beat a containment defense? Bully Ball will be out again tomorrow.
