How do you stop them? Watch last night's game again. Pack the paint, defend the interior, make them shoot threes. They do plenty well but can't shoot. Dickinson will get numbers, but you can take advantage of him in pick and roll. Finally, they want to run, and I say let them. Turn up the tempo and see who wins the turnover battle. That will also force them into their depth, another place I feel we have an edge.

Agree with all of this. It'll be a lot like the UConn plan, but without having to worry about Hawkins and Joey.

I think Jop and Kam would shine against Kansas. Let's beat UCLA so we can find out.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

#1 ranking would mean a great deal to the program, the university, the fan base and to me. I have said for years the basketball program is the greatest marketing tool that MU has and being #1 in the country would be fantastic for MU as a whole. On selfish note, I want to hear them say "now the starting lineups for the #1 in the country".

Back in the day Johnnie Owens always started the introductions by say that MU was currently ranking #1 or whatever the ranking was that week. For the guys that have never heard, it has a great ring to it.

Goose, man, that is fantastic.John Owen. I haven't thought about him in years. That voice had almost a magic echo throughout the old Arena. I wish I could remember what it was ( it was 40 years ago) but he had an almost trademark saying that he wove into the pre-game introductions that was really cool. John Owen had the same kind of personal appeal to me at the time as an Eddie Doucette. He was part of the show.

1980’s game vs Louisville at the MECCA. I think it was Rodney McCray that threw one down. Owens…with a ‘for emphasis’ pause…’THAT…was Rodney McCray’. Classic!

I say we beat Kansas if we can get to Kansas.  Assuming Oso is healthy, I just don't see how Dickinson can guard him in the pick and roll with Kolek. Love that matchup for MU. We have the shooters too, they do not.

Like with Purdue, they will just sag and have Dickinson disrupt the gaps. Oso needs to bring his purported shooting game.

If we win the Hawaii tournament - wait, let me rephrase that - after we win the Hawaii tournament, Marquette will be the #1-ranked team in the nation.

I know that won't really "mean" anything because polls don't matter ...

But sorry, it would be effen cool!!

We Are Marquette!

It would actually mean a ton.  Not because of the obvious #1 ranking we would achieve, but because it would us two thunderous/hammer wins.  That will pay enormous dividends down the road when it comes to tourney seeding.

Harris is really, really, good and can shoot.  He's the guy we really need to eliminate if possible.   :)

It would break an NCAA record for the longest gap between #1 rankings, so that's cool.

All we know is that we'll be ranked #1 if we win our next 3 games.

That's all the knowledge I need right now!

The last time we could say that was April of 2013.  Let’s enjoy this.

Yes. I used to have that attendance number file stamped on my brain, but it was a long time ago. 10,842 rings a bell.

I'm getting old and throwing out from memory, I think 10,972 and then they added some seats to make it 11,052. I am 99% sure that 4ever can confirm the numbers.

11,052?

After they added some seats near the end, yeah, that sounds pretty good, too.

Caveat: No need to check a UW-Milwaukee box score. They've never had a sellout ;)

I mean, they did have one guy go 5/6 from three. So maybe pack the paint but put someone in Harris' pocket all night.

This GE03 is a lot more fun than the one who said we’d lose to Georgia Tech and get bludgeoned by Baylor.

Harris is tough, if you play him tight, he has the speed and craftiness to beat you on the drive. Sag off to take away the drive and he can make threes. Double him and he'll find the open man. On the whole, I'd take my chances that he doesn't hit 83% from deep again.

Not worried about a Kansas game that may or may not happen. I'm worried about the UCLA game, which is going to be tough.

This might shock you, but what fans "worry about" on basketball-fan websites doesn't affect actual outcomes of actual games.

Gosh was that wonderful.

"Now for the Marquette Warriors. This week, ranked 5th in AP and 4th in UPI (now the Coaches pill)."

I'm more interested in hearing, "And, now, for the defending national champion Marquette Golden Eagles...."

Two banners: Maui Champs and #1.

I don’t know why you guys are putting this in teal, since it should be a legitimate thing.

In fact, I sent the Athletic Department a request that they hang up a banner that says:

“Could be #1 if we win Maui.”

I have yet to receive a response.
