My city ( and almost everyone ) did not expect this NCAA Final Four field, ...so the Chron writer attempted comparisons to the fields of prior years in search of outlier tourney fields.

When MU won in 1977 it had the most losses for any tourney winner to that point, correct? In any case, the final four field of 1977 made his list, kind of in "second" place, to this year's odd menagerie.

Note this location and field are reminiscent to UConn of their 2011 FF wins in Houston, which included a field with upstart no 11 VCU led by a young Shaka Smart
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

In the modern era, 64 team+ format, it's closest to 2011.  Even 2014 which had a Final of a 7 versus an 8, had a 1 and 2 seed in the Final 4.

The 2011 Final 4 was hot garbage.

The combined sum of the seeds of the final 4 participants is second only to 2011.    It is what makes the tournament great.

All year, all across college basketball, the refrain was 'there are no dominant teams'.     Well, that was proven.

Another underlying theme on this board was that UConn was the scariest team in the Big East.    Apparently, we know ball.

Maybe the normal has finally happened and aberrations occurred in the past.

Basically, we've learned that when there's a crap Final Four, UConn will be there to take advantage.

At least in '14, they beat a real good Florida team
