First Half
« on: February 12, 2008, 07:31:41 PM »
Silly foul by Scott C. to end half, but wow, who are these guys. Everyone on all cylinders, especially DJ's court sense. His best passing of the year. Again, no Acker, he is just not a BE guard and TC sticking with DJ and McNeal.  Hayward continues to display exceptional skills and is really, really improved.

Can't recall seeing Burke in game.

Did Matthews score or even take a shot?  Last game he took three.

Nice crowd though.

Less Acker because DJ is healthy finally.

Snow tonight in New York and a 3 game losing streak by Seton Hall isn't helping the crowd.

MU needs to get through the first 5 minute surge of Seton Hall and continue to attack the basket.  We only shot 36% which isn't anything to crow about.

how 'bout DJ's no look pass to Ooze at about the 2:00 minute mark?

Sweet

Fitz and Cooby hit three's.

Matthews has 2 baskets for 6 points so far (one 3, one old fashioned 3 point play)

some nice play and good hustle- I echo the comments of the first poster, who the heck are these guys.  Anyway, close em out early, don't let them make a run

i attribute this great half to McNeal taking very few shots.  we are playing smart and under control, like every possesion the score were 0-0.  DJ is being pacient and we overall for the most part are not taking stupid shots, even against the zone we were getting it inside to Lazar and letting him put it on the floor.

Things I liked:

-Crean playing his best players when it was needed instad of emptying the bench.  When we're playing Big East teams, we are realistically about 8 deep, not 11.  Let the talent stay on the floor.

-Crashing the boards and having a defensive focus.  We lose way too much on defense when we're committing silly fouls and getting caught in shorthanded situations because we try too hard to run.  We saw tonight that not giving up 2nd chance opportunities and getting our own is more effective, while running when the opportunity presents itself instead of forcing it.

-DJ played great.  Didn't score a ton, but he ran the offense instead of looking like he was a robot working within the system.

-Good movement.  Anyone could be at any part of the floor at anytime.  Much more effective than four guys camping on the perimeter and one inside.

-Ooze played tough, especially in the first half.  He was able to finish on some occasions by taking it right up to the rim, and he grabbed boards and loose balls like he was on a mission.  He really made SHU's 5's look overmatched.
