Not only do I agree with what Bilas says, I think it's interesting he said it given that he was ALWAYS in Wojo's corner.

The national perception for the Shaka hire has been incredibly positive.

And BTW, Austin and Madison are not representative of the national perception on this topic.

The Wisconsin posters on the /r/collegebasketball subreddit were very supportive and excited about the Shaka hire, happy to have a WI native coach come back home, as well as defensive of MU as a premier college basketball coaching opportunity. It was refreshing, and unnerving, to see so much support from our brethren to the West.

They were nice once, I was nice once. I even had to replace UW-Madison before posting here. I can't imagine the camaraderie will continue.

Glad to hear it?

Just heard Dan Dakich on sports radio in Columbus OH.  Was asked about Beard at Texas.  Unprompted, he started and ended his answer talking about Smart, and what a great hire Marquette made.  He then talked about how Texas did good with snagging  Beard, but ended the interview by saying he expected Smart to do better than Neard at his new school.

Crap. Just when I was excited about MU basketball again, this happens.

I've always loved Dakich and thought he was a very bright guy!

If Dakich is excited, we should all be a little nervous.

Dakich was a great host at the Maui Invitational pre-event dinner last time MU was there. He can be a blowhard but knows the history of basketball and overall appreciates MU and its history.

He was very nice and accommodating to fans at Disney too. Ratings vs. real life

I disagree.

Dakich is the ultimate jerk. Pompous, pretentious, etc.

But he knows college basketball.

He's very knowledgable.  He just absolutely loves to hear himself talk.

My read on Dakich? He was a middling player who was always overshadowed by better players at IU.  Then he was a mediocre head coach despite sitting next to a legend for a decade.  As a result, he has a complex that leads to him being a relentless know it all.  He knows the game and the nuances of college basketball extremely well, he just is very obnoxious and needs to commandeer every broadcast to show just how knowledgeable he is. He's probably a perfectly nice guy, his broadcast and media person is just completely pompous and douchetastic

I think you said the same thing that I did - you just make it sound so much better.  :)

I've never met Dakich but what you describe fits Gottlieb 100% based upon my meeting with hiim. Well, maybe not the "knows college basketball part."
