Date for MU to name the new coach
« on: March 22, 2021, 10:59:36 AM »
I've always been impressed at the speed of hires in college basketball, in comparison to any other profession.  Considering the transfer portal, and the Wild West environment, this matter will be resolved, and made public, within two weeks. April 1st lands on a Tuesday this year.

April 1st.

The morning will start with some April fools posts stating so and so is the new coach.

Then when the real coaching hire is named later that day, everyone will be thrown for a loop.

I wish that scenario had been the case on April 1, 2014 at Marquette. Biggest April Fool's Day joke ever in college bball.

Crean comes full circle and gets hired on April 1 back at MU.

I would say things start to pick up when Loyola/Baylor gets knocked out. Indiana may be looking at Drew. Beard may be an option as wel”. The state of Texas could start some dominoes. If IU keeps striking out, I feel like IU, DePaul, MU may be waiting on Moser before moving too far forward.

From the title, I assumed you just didn't want to go stag.

24 hours after Loyola loses... Although I do have them in the final 4.

Suggested to Mr Cords we get the best recruiter out there. Mr Cords took a pool or survey at the Final Four to identify the best recruiter out there. Kevin O’Neil was identified as the best recruiter out there. Mr Cords hired Kevin O’Neil after the Final Four. But this time we are probably looking for a Head Coach Mr Scholl seemed to say so an announcement may be sooner. “We will see”as my friend Rob Kwapil RIP from Schroeder Hall used to say.

If the admin legitimately targets Beilein/Matta and one somehow agrees to come I would expect to hear rumblings or even an announcement by later this week.

If not, hopefully they wait on Moser. I wouldn’t expect to hear rumblings until later next week in that case. I’d be very surprised if it extends beyond the week of April 5th, especially with all the current guys in limbo and non sit out rule in place.

Obviously no one knows who they truly covet, and sometimes it’s a candidate completely off the fans radar (I think this was the case with Wojo right?).

That said, I think they work on the “free agent” big fish this week and if that doesn’t work hopefully work on Porter right after Loyola’s exit, then quickly shift to one of the up and comers (Smith, Gates, etc) if that doesn’t work out.

Guessing they're talking to some assistants this week too.

If they make the move this week, that means that Moser's agent rejected the request (and they agree to deal with Gates :D)

Longer Loyola stays in the tournament, the better the chances are for MU to land Moser over Indiana (if that is who they want to hire).

I’m not sure Indiana boosters will wait much longer to get their guy.

That's definitely something Moser would say.

Ergo, you hired O’Neil. That checks out.

I think the people making the decision know they have to get it right, so I think they will take their time and vet several candidates very carefully.
