Can Anyone Help Me? Marquette Season Statistics from Old Media Guides

Marquette Overload

Over at muoverload.com > Statistics > Player (Season) I have compiled all player season stats back to 1928-29 with the exception of the 1929-30, 1933-34, 1942-43, 1952-53, and 1997-98 seasons.  As far as I know, this is the only place all of this data can be found in one place.  Using the little arrows under each category you can sort and filter to find all-time season leaders, class leaders, etc.

The data I have found comes from old media guides, Hilltop yearbooks, Marquette Tribunes, and athletic department stats.

I consider the media guide the go to when discrepancies occur.  Unfortunately I have been unable to get the media guide stat page for the 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99 seasons.  I have numbers in there that I trust but I would still like to confirm it with the media guide.  (FYI sportsreference.com is close but not always 100%)

Does anyone have the 1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, or 1999-00 media guide?  If so could you take a photo of the page with the previous season's stats?  I would highly appreciate it!

Once I can check those, I hope to complete the career stats, many of which can already be found at muoverload.com > Statistics > Player (Career).

Looks like sports reference has stats for those 90s teams.

They do.  And they are close.  But they are often slightly off in relation to the MU media guides.

I think MU OL is is MU AD.  It definitely feels like the call is coming from inside the house.

Also, it makes complete sense that MU has no traceable history of the Mike Deane Era.

Haha I am not affiliated with the athletic department.

They did send me the stats they had recorded which was very useful.  Unfortunately, the stats they have recorded for the late 90s don't jive well with other sources including future media guides. Like sports reference they are close. But not exact.

The MU library was very helpful (shoutout to Katie Blank over there) and scanned the stats and rosters of all their old media guides in the archives, however, they weren't able to get that page for the four requested seasons.

I'm hoping someone out there might have those media guides laying around somewhere.

Lens ... taking a shot at Deane 20 years after the fact ?  Pathetic

The Deane years were fine.  2 NCAAS
2 NITS / one bad year ... A CUSA championship .. 3-2 v UW ( I think )

Lots of great wins  v / Cincy / the
Ville and Memphis.  Certainly his years were not great ... but it was a different era ...  better than our last seven years
for sure

And Crean quickly improved the situation

Lens, I read your skit out loud just now to amuse Mrs. Topper.  She added "AND BOBBLEHEADS!"

.. it's just one box for crying out loud.

I'm looking for an accurate list of past MU bobbleheads. Can anyone help me?

I can't believe they've never done an Al bobblehead.  I have the bronze arms-raised Al statuette, but never a bobble?!?

Fun MU bobblehead story. Someone confused my Dwight Schrute bobblehead for Crean (since I had a few other MU ones).

I'd be on board with a Jimmy bobblehead in the future. I could see a Markus one as a way to commemorate his all-time leading scorer status.

I could see a Markus one but not for this reason. Jerel didn't get on and he held the record for a decade.

Aside from Paul Quinn, there is probably no bigger fan of Mike Deane than "The Lens".  I've spilled plenty of drinks with Deane-o post game at Turners.  He and I worked together on a early concept Midnight Madness, his blessing & support helped form a Student Spirit Committee (which I chaired) to raise the profile of sports on campus, and later in his MU career I recruited him to a sports agency I was working for.

He's the best.
