Assuming wojo gets fired, the first filter for our coaching search should be that they're black. The optics of having a white man being in charge of a bunch of mostly black men is just going to continue to get worse and worse. Will be a huge liability in recruiting.
Even I would say the first filter should be that they are capable of winning basketball games at a high P6 level. I agree that an institution that has never had a black head coach, and sits in a city of notable race inequality, should be very cognizant of that and do everything to ensure their search incorporates that fact.

I think we should hire the best coach for the role, regardless of race? eh?

How about hiring the best candidate?  If that's a Black coach, excellent. If that's an Asian, White, mixed-race or Hispanic coach, that's excellent too. I just want a coach who is going to win and represent MU. MU pursued a Black coach the last time around and he bombed his interview.

The idea it will be a "huge liability" in recruiting is laughable. Is Butler out recruiting us? DePaul? Providence? St. John's? Georgetown is ranked just ahead of us per 24/7, but that's because of their one five-star (we have a higher average ranking for the class).

With modern day's hyper-focus on race I don't think you can separate those two. How does it look if the university decides the best person for the role is white over all the qualified black coaches? It's pretty problematic.

Of all the candidates who might be reasonably available to Marquette, who do you think the best one is? Not trying to troll, just curious.
