It is sad that democracy has become a political topic.  While I understand, I'm still sadened.

In my view tax policy, government regulations, foregin treaties, the draft, immigration reform are examples of legitimate political topics.

However, we now live in a country where everything is political, even science, history and democracy.

I applaude our Scoop monitors removing political topics from our discussions.

I understand that the concept of democracy is now debatable in America and therefore off limits.

I know that, and the concept is being played for all it's worth.  There will be a tipping point.

Our Republic was constructed to give a voice to all parties through representatives . It was designed to prevent mob rule and passions of the moment.

The present environment is characterized by angry mobs and their associated  sponsor groups who seek to silence any opposing viewpoints.

The minority with a voice can only rule for so long.   Minority rights must be protected, but in the end the majority rules either peacefully thru the democratic process or regretably thru violence.

When angry mobs represent the majority there is a big problem.  Perhaps the opposing viewpoints have had their day.  We shall see what we shall see.

Damn man, really makes you think.

So parliamentary democracies like Canada, UK, New Zealand, Australia are ruled by mobs and passions of the moment, by design?

Really makes you think.

I prefer our system over the parliamentarian system. USA still number one. Those countries cited above all have lower standard of living than US despite huge asset base relative to population in two of them.  Parliamentarian system has an inherently unstable government structure .

The Economist's democracy index does a nice job of reviewing factors and rating the successes of countries in their pursuit of democracy. see:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index

BTW, USA is rated a "flawed democracy"

PS Why isnt this in superbar.?

...MU basketball has never pretended to operate as a democracy
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Mr. Sand-Knit

The Democracy died with Bill and Hillary Clinton.  The two largest crooks in the history of our nation.
