Thanks for posting that link, MUFINY.
Matt seems like a fine young man, and I'm proud of everything he has accomplished at Marquette.
The paragraph that sticks out to me is his answer to the question about the difficulty of going from starter to deep on the bench.
At first, yes, it's difficult. Especially going from starting and playing the majority of minutes to being the last guy at your position. But, at the end of the day, it's all about what's for the good of the team. Comparing last year to this year, would I take the same situation, knowing how good our team would be and how successful it would be? Yes, I would take that every time. Because it's more fun to win and to be the best team possible. It's fun to start, it's fun to play but it's more fun to win. And it's fun to win a lot.
I wasn't much of an athlete but I played enough decent-level sports to know that getting benched killed him. He had two choices: Pout about it and mail it in, or do everything that was within his control to make this a fun, satisfying experience for himself and the team. I am thrilled that he chose the latter.
Matt is a player of extremely limited skills. I said before the season that the first sign that this team was going to be any good would be the number of minutes he played. If he was still playing 20+ mpg, we weren't going to be any better than the previous 3 seasons. If he was playing 10-15 mpg, we might be a little better. If he was playing less than 10 (and not at all in many games), it would mean we were getting quality play out of Theo and Ed, and that would translate into the best success of the Wojo Era. How Wojo has managed the 5 has been one of the best things he has done as a coach, not just this season but in the last 4 years.
I'm so glad Matt maximized his senior season, was always ready when Wojo called, worked hard in practice and became a leader for our fine team. He is a true Warrior.
