The OFFICiAL announcement...

Jim McIlvaine and John Scott Lewinski return with the men's lifestyle podcast, Marq'd Men. This week, they sit down with veteran college basketball and NBA coach Kevin O'Neill, one of the faces who saved Marquette Basketball from obscurity in the 1990s. The interview is free-wheeling, candid, NSFW and recommended for those 13 and older.

Special thanks to the Blue Microphones, Samson Microphones, Marquette University Basketball and Optima Batteries.

Then, the UNOFFICIAL missive...

Big Mac and John sat down with KO for three hours. You'll hear one of those hours. The other two were off the record. Though I'd love to share everything we talked about during that quiet time, we honor our word to our guests here.

I can tell everyone here who gives a damn that...

- My belief is he and his guys saved Marquette from becoming Holy Cross or Fordham.
- To put in his vernacular, he still m*therf*ckin cares about m*therf*ckin MU and wants to see them m*therf*ckin succeed, m*therf*ckers.
- There is more to him leaving MU than its fans know, and it will stay that way. In short, there's two sides to that story.
- He attended the Creighton game in a cap and sans-glasses. Very few recognized him, and he wanted it that way.
- Sitting with him and talking basketball during and after the Creighton game was an honor and an absolute education.

Thank you for listening and take care.

Dr. Blackheart

Thanks for these.

As to being incognito, his cover was blown when they put the camera on him at the game and announced his presence.

While I was out of town, I did hear of a great KO sighting. From what I heard, KO is still KO. Look forward to listening upon my return home.

Dr. Blackheart...

Doh! That did blow the gig, but he knew that was coming. Before that, only a handful pegged him. All were too scared to approach...Unnecessarily.

the story Bill Cords told a few of us is that after Kevin went to Tennessee and saw the entire situation he called and asked if he could come back, but due to Kevin's press conference upon leaving MU Cords said no. Did that ever come up and if not, does anyone know if that's a true story.

I do not believe MU would have fallen to Holy Cross or Fordham status, more like Loyola or Dayton at the time (remember how brutal they were in the GMC) but yes, KO and especially Cords saved us from that happening.

If you are wondering in the desert does it really matter if it's The Mojave or the Sahara?

This was before my time. What happened in the press conference?

the rumor was that KO was very harsh on MU and how high the program could go, particularly since he was (allegedly) promised a new practice facility and that was never delivered. I'm sure others have actual memories of it.

That is a true story.
