Always great to hear about the guys who built MU basketball tradition.  Wittberger's  must have been fun to watch back in the day.

Thanks Ben Steele for doing this research report.

Russ was in the same class as my Dad -- 1955

After Grant graduated, Russ was paired up with the great Terry Rand, perhaps MU's first blue blood superstar.  During Russ' Senior season in '54-55, our Warriors compiled an amazing record of 24-3 and reached what amounted to the Elite 8.  Bill Russell described Rand as the best center he had ever played in college.

Until recently, clips of that '55 team appeared in videos like 'Pray'.  For those who grew up in this century, it's good to remember that basketball has been important at Marquette for a very long time.

First postseason appearance ever.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!
