OT - The Women's Top 16 Reveal - 3/4/19
« on: March 04, 2019, 07:29:51 PM »
ESPN's bracketology prediction still had the Marquette Women as a 4 seed and hosting but I was doubting that.

And tonight's top 16 reveal by the NCAA confirmed what I was thinking - Marquette and Gonzaga are the two teams no longer in the top 16 that appeared there in the first reveal 3 weeks ago.  Marquette had been a 3 seed then and Gonzaga a 4 seed.  Marquette has suffered 3 losses since the original reveal on 2/11.  And the biggest loss they've had is off the court losing Erika Davenport to a season ending knee injury in their loss to Butler on 2/22.  They just can't replace Davenport's rebounding, scoring in the post and defense - it's a big loss for them.  Danielle King got hurt in Friday's loss at Creighton and didn't play in Sunday's game and her status going forward is unknown.

Things can change before the final selection two weeks from tonight but even if Marquette were to win the BET, I don't know that it would be enough to move them back up to a 4 seed and hosting.  And I think it's going to be hard for them at this point to win the BET.
