Graduate Transfer de-commits From Xavier

Evan Boudreaux is a talented 6'8" power forward from Lake Forest, IL, 50 miles from Marquette.  Will graduate from Dartmouth this spring so smart and immediately playable with 2 years of eligibility. He has reopened his recruiting from  Dartmouth and the Ivy League. Played on the same AAU team as Brunson, and opposed him at Stevenson at Lake Forest High a rival  We are already strong with the Sam and Joey at forward but he could open the door for a powerful "switchable" lineup. Are we allowed to recruit from another in the Big East? Is offering to a released Big East prospect poaching?   He wants to play on an NCAA tournament team. Have we shown any interest?

He is still at Dartmouth, so he never set foot at Xavier as a transfer.  so, he would be open game.  But, our needs are much different.  But, he and a solid grad transfer PG would work for me.  Unlikely though.

You've answered your own question. This kid has his pick of schools, why would he go into a program where he has no guarantee of minutes.

Agree what others have said.  Gets me thinking that the relatively few coaching transitions creates stability that might limit the overall pool this year.

I have no idea. I just pointing out we may not be as deep as we think we are.

....I can just see the recruiting pitch....." hey come to Marquette.....we have 3 really good guys who play your position that are  already here ....1 freshman and 2 juniors but 2 of them are recovering from injuries......we expect them to make a full recovery but if they don't we could really use you!"

Between Joey, Sam, Ed, Cain and Bailey I'm comfortable with the forward position.

Typically I subscribe to the Ted Thompson school of selecting the best available rather than selecting to fill a need, but I tend to agree with looking at PG options first.

I'd probably even take a low-major point guard who can handle and pass the ball even if he can't shoot worth a damn.

    But I don't think I would use the "we got three guys who are really good..." approach. Yes,  I am also suggesting the "Thomson theory" of recruiting the best athletes. Not too long ago we were very successful with 3 forwards and 2 guards. Remember the Hayward and Jimmy Butler days and others. Until recently Jay Wright won big with his 4 guard offenses before he had the pick of the litter.
   There is no argument that we need a ball handler who can consistently break a press and distribute the ball.  But why not take a look at another gifted athlete. You can bring up Youtube tape right now showing his prowess playing against Jalen Brunson in high school and his Ivy League rookie of the year season.
     In this case a different approach might be to suggest to the athlete the benefit of an essentially free 2 years of Law school or an MBA while contributing on a team with a very high ceiling and where his family can share in the fun. But then Al might say, "too much grass in his front yard".

What roster was 3 forwards and 2 guards?  The teams you are referring to ran 3 guards, 2 Forwards, and that is counting Crowder/Butler as Forwards, when both play the 3 position as their natural position.  It is more correct to say that we ran a 4 guard offense then, with either Crowder or Otule as our 5.

At times those teams were closer to a 5 guard offense where we had natural 3's playing the 5 position (Crowder/Hayward).
