Great read.  Nothing most of us don't already know, but nice to see the kid getting the pub he deserves.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

MUfan12

Howard and Wojciechowski have discussed the NBA, which Wojciechowski fully expects Howard to reach. His size will be scrutinized, but Johnson sees some J.J. Barea in him, as well as Eddie House, a 2,000-point scorer at Arizona State who played 11 NBA seasons.

The interesting part: After years on the fast track, Howard looks at the last step differently. He is, after all, only 18. "I want to make sure I don't just make it," Howard said. "I want to stay and maintain a career."

Whattayamean stuff we didn't already know? I mean, didn't you see Stan's first quote?

"We tend to forget he's only 18."

Actually, I hadn't read this much on Markus and didn't know that he and his brother had such an exacting regimen. I also didn't know Wojo opts against choosing captains.

Loved this line from Wojo: "His bad shots are better than other guys' good shots."

I also like the Eddie House comparison (as should Markus). House had a very good college career, capped by an excellent senior season, played a long time in the NBA and, according to Basketball Reference, made more than $14M.

Markus is ahead of House's pace, putting up the kind of numbers as a soph that House did as a senior.

If any Scooper made a House comparison in other Markus threads, I musta missed it.

He's only 18? Who knew?

I hope the commentators for tonight's game get right on this breaking story and talk about it.

Another M2N mention, and some AR for good measure.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/22197099/jay-bilas-best-things-seen-volume-2

I actually think Bilas hints at why he's missing his own mark here.

He names Markus and AR among the most underrated players ... but right at the end of the little blurb he states that Sam is the one who is leading the BE in 3FG%.

After the 52-point game, anybody who follows hoops at all knows who Markus is.

Sam truly is one of the most underrated players in the country. Get with the program, Jay!

Bilas had a story out today too - "The best things I have seen so far -- Volume II" - where he mentions Howard and Roswey (with a nod to Sam) in his most underrated section. Similar to the MH story, nothing new to MU fans, but it's always nice to get some love on a national level.

Hilarious, and agreed re: Sam

Reading that I really think he will test the waters this year and return next year. Maybe he goes as a junior, but until he knows what scouts want to see from him specifically and has time to work on it, I don't think he'll make the jump.

I just can't see him going against Chris Paul, Kyrie, Curry, Wall, Westbrook, Lowry, Lillard, Kemba and the likes....

Good college player, but going against those guys, with his height and defensive deficiencies is a real uphill battle.

You just named 8 all-stars and probably 4 or 5 hall of famers. Ain't too many people in the league that can stop them in the first place. No one is expecting him to play up to that level, but I think he could be a nice backup PG if he can do some major work on his ballhandling and defense over the next year or 2.

That was the point, but other PG like Payton, Schroder, Dunn, Teague, Ball, Simmons, Rubio, Smith....
Each NBA team has a point guard with exceptional NBA talent and usually a backup.  Just saying with his deficiencies, its  going to be a tough road for him.

I know Markus is not the best defender in the world, but I thought he played the best positional defense of anyone on the team last night. I know, I know, the one-eyed man in the land of the blind is king... but that's the first time his defense stood out to me. I think by this time next year he'll be much improved in that department. And guys like Kyrie & Isaiah Thomas are horrid defenders, but their offense outweighs their deficiencies. Plus the intangible that Markus is an extremely smart & driven person, he'll find a way to make himself stick in the league.
