The No. 13/13 Marquette University men's basketball team opens a two-game road swing at Louisville Thursday night in a key early season BIG EAST Conference matchup. The program's fifth national television appearance of the season will be featured on ESPN2. Dan Shulman (play-by-play) and Len Elmore (analyst) will call the action from Freedom Hall. The Cardinals lead the all-time series 35-24, with each road team claiming a victory in home-and-home matchups in 2006-07.

Victory Over Notre Dame Leads To Historic Result
Saturday's 92-66 win over Notre Dame was impressive for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the final margin of victory. In a series that dates back to 1920, MU's most recent 24-point decision over the Fighting Irish marked the largest win by the Golden Eagles in 109 all-time meetings.

Marquette led wire-to-wire, but it wasn't until the second half that the team was able to put the game out of reach. An eight-point halftime advantage bulged to as many as 30 points following intermission thanks to an impressive performance at both ends of the court. Five players finished with double figures in points for the third time in 2007-08 and MU benefitted from 29 points off turnovers.

The Golden Eagles scored 91-or-more points for the fourth time (two in conference play) this season, marking the most times it has reached that mark since 2002-03 when the Final Four team accomplished the feat on five occasions.

Statistics Back Up Team's Success In League Play
Marquette's overall performance in league action thus far translates into strong across-the-board balance in the conference-only statistical categories.

Through games of Jan. 15, Marquette ranks first in the BIG EAST in six areas and is among the top-five performers in a total of 10 categories. In BIG EAST contests, the Golden Eagles currently pace the 16-team league in scoring margin (+11.2), free throw percentage (.806), assists (18.75 apg.), steals (10.00 spg.), assist/turnover ratio (1.34) and 3-point field goals made (9.75 3-pt pg.).

I know it's early in the schedule, but it's nice to see us leading the conference in FT percentage.
