Some reasons why we lost
« on: January 06, 2008, 07:47:58 PM »
1.  Too many dumb fouls.
2.  Too many lazy passes.

I think points one and two are direct result of the cupcake parade before the Providence game.  Besides the negative effect on the RPI, those games let us get away with sloppy play and encourage bad habits.

3.  Ouse had bad case of fumble fingers.  Lost a bunch of rebounds and seemed to be out of sorts.  It's really demoralizing when those great interior passes from our guards are not converted.
4.  We fell in love with the three point shot and took too many with tons of shot clock time left.
5.  We got whipped whenever Fitz or Acker were on the floor.
6.  We were not prepared for the 1-3-1 zone and did not handle it well.for whatever we reason were off a tick all game long.  There were times when I thought the ball was greased or something because we just couldn't grab
it.

The only good news is that we were still right there with 6 or 7 to go despite how badly we played.  James is playing at a very high level right now.  We suffer whenever he or Hayward sits.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

The dessert buffett in the pre-conference season did probably give us a false sense of execution, but I thought with the Providence win being so convincing after half, that we would be ready.  I also thought there were times in the cupcake games where we executed very well for long periods of time.  It is tought to beat a team by 30+. WVU is good, and you're right, we seemed lazy or slow.

Hopefully with Fitz getting back into game shape he will not be so lost and unwilling to shoot.  Give him a couple games.  Acker just might not be strong enough against top tier, big guards.  That remains to be seen.  Our depth will still be a strength and these early tests will help in the long run.

James is playing at a high level, but he did seem to disappear at the end.

quick threes hurt us...Uhhh Wes what are you doing mr bricklayer..please drive you are not a 3 shooter!!  Burke neds to stay out of foul trouble becuase Jenga cannot catch and barely cand dunk.  Give Fitz minutes to Trend...neither can play D and at least trend hustles.

Trend deserves more minutes based on his hustle and athletic ability. Burke looks like Burke 2006/07 again.

Plain and simple, as Lazar goes, so goes this team. He's the most valuable player on the team. Him being out early today killed us.

And like the other person just said...we played TERRIBLE in the first half and were down one...on the road...at WVU. So, to say this team is done for like some seem to imply is just idiotic. If we go 0-2 or go 1-1 and look bad the next two games, then maybe the "concern" buttons can be pushed. But I think all will be well.

Interested to see if they can stop Harongody this year on Saturday vs. ND.

West Virgina was quicker than us in getting to long rebounds and loose balls on the court. MU wins by out hussling teams. Today we were out hussled. Also the opening charge on Lazaar really hurt us. Avoid that and he does not get in foul trouble so early. He is the one player we cannot afford to have in foul trouble.
