1)  Coaching - changing the line-up changed the year.  JJJ and Cheatham together was a turnover or bad shot routinely.  Got rid of that by benching Cheatham, he
deserved it.  JJJ as you can tell is a make or break type player.  Yes, yesterday was an offensive barrage from JJJ in the first half.  But if you watch that game again,
see how many times JJJ was out of position on the D end.  One thing I did see, I saw JJJ running one time back on the D end.  First time I can remember.  I  believe         for the rest of the year.  Nice to see him go out with a great game, to bad on the dunk, the place was ready to explode.

2) Matt Heldt - really makes a difference on the D end.  Really helps as Luke is to weak and not aggressive enough.  Offense, anything he give you is a plus.  With great shooters he sets lots of picks,  Luke sets picks, but not good ones.   Effort - A Plus.  Glad to have him back for 2 more years,  3 months ago not sure anybody thought   that.

3) Shooting of Reinhardt, Rowsey and Howard.  Best Shooting team in MU history, stats show it, fun to watch.   Diener, Wade and Novak were good, but these 3 are
better.  Hard to defend MU when they get out and run.

4) Sam is better than we all thought as a freshman.  Does not make mistakes, is rebounding better as the season went along, and last 2 games made plays inside the
paint, so he is working on his game.  Great pass from DWilson yesterday for a 3, teammates like him, and the bond with Marcus is strong, which will bring Joey you would think to MU.  MU style right now is better than MSU and Wisky.

5) Howard, who would have thought he would lead the nation in 3 point percentage shooting, and yesterday he did look like a point guard.  First time I thought that,
all he lacks is consistency and that will come with age, now 18.

6) Cheatham - to bad, better players in front of him, do not see him transferring, just has to rework his game this summer.  If he did transfer, I would call him a quitter.
Suck it up and improve.

7) DWilson changeover.  This is about coaching.  Changed his game, from volume and turnover player to giving up shots for better shots.  Still think he is hurt a tad as
there is no lift on his drives.   Not sure he is not to gun shy to the basket, as yesterday he was not sure if he should drive or pass.  Liked he took the 3 and hit it, seems to be the vocal leader on the team.

8)  Finally, I was wrong on the team,  but Wojo turned it around, even in the huddles he seems to be doing a better job.  They run a good O and did not play zone yesterday which they can not rebound or defend anybody when they go to it.  Fun year, lets see if Elliott liked the style.  Lot to see.  Future looks bright.

Let's talk about the names we'd call people if they decided to transfer one day.

Heldt 7 rebounds in to 4 for fischer.  Heldt had half fishers minutes.  Thought fisher played better than normal yesterday but still contend the 5 for us needs to focus on defense and rebounding.  Notice many runs we give up are conditions of bad defense and second chances n they more often than not correlate to Luke being on the floor

also helps that our guards are rebounding

Jay Bee

Preseason comments:

"A net improvement of 2.5% in eFG% differential means a +5.8% and places Marquette in or around the top 35 of eFG% differential, by far the most important of the four factors. Do that, and they are in business even without improvement in rebounding."

...after yesterday's game, Marquette now has a +5.8% eFG% margin.

The future with Heldt looks bright. I think he will continue to add muscle in a way that improves his foot speed, and he already has soft hands for a player his age. Different styles and different teams, but for context, Heldtasaurus is already producing comparable trending averages (and better "best games") vs what the team got from the 5 during the Amigos years with Jamil Lott, Ousmane, Dwight Burke.
