Article in the Journal looking back at the final football game of the 1959 season against Holy Cross.  Some really amazing color photos - http://www.jsonline.com/story/life/green-sheet/2016/11/15/our-back-pages-when-marquette-university-football-ended-w/93567164/

The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Hired on a 3 year contract in 1959, our coach Liz Blackbourn still had 2 contract years left when the program died
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Great article. Love the reference to the Jesuit priest.

I think we need to bring Football back. Join the Pioneer Football League which is non scholarship FCS. It would be excellent for school spirit and a lot of fun. Play the games at Hart Park and they would be sold out and the atmosphere would be  great.

The cost of being a non scholarship program is much less and is doable.

It would be cool, but I don't see it happening.

It would be cool to have a non-scholarship football team?

Maybe there are more rabid football fans at MU than when I was there, but I would expect very few to pay to go see that (or go for free for that matter).

Yeah, it would be cool.

I'm not going to go out of my way to make it happen, and I don't think its realistic. But I think it would be cool.

We would have some fun games in the pioneer football league playing teams like Butler etc. We would easily sell out Hart Park as the games would be a local happening etc.
