How the Catholic Church documents "miracles" for canonization to sainthood.

I am a believer, but still skeptical of the cause and effect of prayer. I guess the question is, how many unexplained "healings' have been documented without prayers. This is beyond science since there is no "control" to base a rational conclusion.

Really it's about faith right?  Virgin birth, rising from the dead, speaking in tongues.  As Fr. James Martin says in the article, "There's something more than the rational mind can believe, and are you OK with that?"

I've kind of come to the conclusion that human beings aren't smart enough to understand certain things.  Maybe we haven't figured out interstellar travel because we simply don't have the intellectual capacity.  Once homo sapiens are inevitably wiped off the face of the Earth, the next step in evolution will be even smarter beings who can figure this stuff out.  Maybe faith falls in the same category.

I have mentioned this before, but probably the best theology course I had at Marquette was with Fr. Alexander, an orthodox monk who had trouble connecting with the average undergraduate student.  Anyway one thing I took away from that class is that the Orthodox Church understands and appreciates the fact that there are a lot of "unknowns" out there.  Whereas the western Churches try to rationally describe everything even though we don't really know everything.
