...and it's not even a college stadium.

Yup.  Football is insane down there.  Coaches in the highest division make 6 digit figures just to coach football, and have for a decade now.  Kind of disgusting.

Speaking of high school football, does anybody know anything about IL high school football this year?  Is Loyola Academy going to be as good this year as they were last year?  From what I can see it looks like their state semi and quarterfinal games were close ones but the finals was 41-0.  I believe they beat MUHS either 41-0 or 41-7 in the first game of the season last year at Loyola and are coming up to play MUHS Friday at Hart Park, so wondering if it's worth going to watch them play.

Disgusting is an understatement.  But it's not like the schools are left wanting in the classroom as a consequence... I have yet to see a story of one of these stadiums be built where the school was using obsolete (or no) technology, outdated textbooks, etc.  In this story, the bond issue was $220M, yet the stadium only cost $70M... so twice as much went into the classrooms as it did into the stadium.

Frankly, it seems like these stadiums are merely window dressing for districts to pass major funding referendums.  That's the disgusting part... that the residents of Texas need shiny new stadiums and stellar football programs just to boost funding to their schools.

Wait a second........

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

This same issue was discussed a few months ago...here is a review/explanation I provided regarding ISDs (Independent School District) building the centralized "big stadium" ....:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Absolutely should have. it was bankrupting us, we sucked and student interest was at zero. We would have ended up worse than UConn. There's only money in football is you're in a power five conference.

Boston College and Notre Dame.     The two Catholic universities out of (how many?) that still have a D1 football program.   MU did not have the resources 55 years ago to continue, nor does it now.   A short-sighted pipe dream.

Coincidentally, this story ran today regarding the football programs in the state of Michigan.  Which are self sustaining.    Which aren't.    How much the respective universities spend to subsidize the football programs and athletic departments.
