Big AAU event at Homestead this weekend for those in the Milwaukee area.  Many of the top players in the midwest will be there

Freeport Warrior

Watched some showcase games last night.

Best game of the night was Mac Irvin Fire vs. WI Swing 16U. Mitch Listau (Wanaukee) and Nick Klug (Burlington) had Jabari/Okafor's former AAU team by 10 points for a long stretch until about 5 minutes left. The constant pressure of Mac Irvin eventually paid off and they ended up on something like a 18-2 run to finish them off. Kezo Brown from Simeon looked decent but nothing spectacular, seems to have stopped growing vertically and hit the gym. The other guard, Whitney, looked tough.

Playground Warriors 17U got embarrassed by Mac Irvin Fire -- I think they were up 25 at half. Kobe King did not play, but I don't think it would have mattered at all. Dunks, ally-opps galore. When Mac Irvin is hitting outside shots they seem unbeatable. Luke Loewe fro PGW thought he had a breakaway layup and Christian Negron came out of nowhere to pin it on the top of the square. Justin Smith seemed to lead transition after transition of dunks. Negron reminds me of Cheatham although be plays forward for this team.

Playground Warriors 16U got a test from Meanstreets (former AAU team of Tyler Ulis and Charles Matthews from KY), but it never seemed in doubt. Meanstreets is Chicago-based and started by Tai Street WR from Michigan. Herro and McCabe looked a little off all night. Herro's shots weren't falling and  McCabe actually took a seat on the bench after a run of turnovers. I didn't matter because this team is totally stacked 10 deep. McCabe finished with 18 but took a bunch of shots to get there, Herro took a bunch too and finished with less. Deiner barely shot at all. New kid on the team, Will MacDonald looked real good. He may be someone to watch. Funniest part of the night was watching sub 6' tall kids fly through the air on every court putting down some amazing dunks in traffic and transition -- then PGWarriors 7' 2" center Trapp have a wide open dunk and getting stuck on the rim. I would expect to see the PGW in the finals against the Iowa Barnstormers.

Speaking of the 16U Iowa Barnstormers, they added our boy Joey Hauser to their team. They were already good without him and have an Iowa recruit, Joe Weiskamp (sp?) who has dominated AAU since birth. Apparently, Joey is a game-time decision for the final games tomorrow because he is with Sam and family at the Final Four.

Freeport, what are your thoughts on Kobe King?

And Jordan Poole, if you don't mind.

Freeport,

Did you catch any of the games at court 3 today? Could have sworn Mache was reffing. Anyone else see that?

Michigan recruit Jordan Poole (6-4) has taken over the game for Playground Elite, which has defeated a tough NEYSB squad.

Jordan Poole with two huge triples for Playground Elite, which tails NEYSB 59-58 in a 17U game.

Yes. Mach brothers were reffing last night and today.

I like him and think he will be a more mature/higher IQ Duane Wilson. Seems to be more team oriented at this point in his development and I think that will only get better with the Badgers approach. He didn't do much in the state quarterfinals, but you could tell he has all of the tools and body.

That team should be pretty dang good... (Wieskamp, pronounced 'wheez-camp'). Iowa Barnstormers will be in the Twin Cities May 13-15... along with WI PG Warriors and many others for the Battle of the Lakes.. shaping up to be a nice tourney filled with numerous MU interests..

AJ Green has been a beast all weekend so far for the Barnstormers 16u. Excited to see them play again today.

Interesting... wonder how tall he winds up? Traditional, but not in name. Had forgotten his dad was an MU assist the year after the FF. I think he's still an asst at UNI, but hey.. things can change... from Minneapolis originally. Definitely will make time to take in several Barnstormers 16U games this spring & summer...

AJ green & J.Hauser are buddies, which helped Hauser join Barnstormers I heard. So if Joey were to commit...wouldn't hurt things with Green.

Look forward to your updates throughout the spring/summer, Jay Bee.

How are Barnstormers so good year after year? I remember going to the Homestead tourney a couple years ago and seeing Cal, Ryan, Barnes, Bazz, Alford, etc. watching teams from DC, Texas, Chicago, and WI, but then there are the Barnstormers with a bunch of unassuming traditionals making a run to the finals.

Herro, McCabe and Co. get the early TKO from All Ohio (they stop the game at 3 mins if team is up 20). Both did not look good. McCabe had maybe 10 and gave up 20 to the opposing guard.

As I was leaving, Joey Hauser had just joined the Barnstormers mid-game and it was close with 4 mins to play. They have some studs on that team for sure.
