Badgers freshman Andy Van Vliet ruled ineligible for season

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin freshman Andy Van Vliet is ineligible for the 2015-16 season, after the NCAA denied the school's appeal seeking his reinstatement.

The NCAA ruled Nov. 4 that the Belgium native was ineligible, but Wisconsin filed a waiver citing "factors outside of Van Vliet's control." The school received word Tuesday that the appeal had been denied.

Vliet, a 6-foot-11 freshman, was expected to add depth to a Badgers front line that lost Frank Kaminsky, Sam Dekker and Duje Dukan from a squad that reached the 2014 national championship game.

The school said NCAA rules allow student-athletes one year to enroll in college following their high school graduation or expected graduation date. Van Vliet, 20, played as an amateur outside that window.

In addition to sitting out this season, Van Vliet will have only three years of eligibility remaining.

He had to repeat his junior year of HS because the dog ate his homework BUT he apparently met the tough admission standards at WI.

Considering that the average UW alum weighs 300 lbs. and loves waffles, I don't think there was much of basis to deny this guy admission.  Frankly, if he has any cuilinary skillz at all, denying admission to AVV would probably have incited riots... or earthquakes.

(It's pretty clear to me that we're seeing the UW campus at 0:11)

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Squirmy.   I am sure that badger nation will blame the NCAA, as St. Bo would never take a marginal student.

A 3 on the Squirm-o-Meter.  Madison has some worse issues that moves the needle towards a 10.
