Wednesday turned out to be the day Pallacanestro Cantù, a team in Italy's Serie A basketball league, played its final game of the season. Apparently for Metta World Peace the end of the season still couldn't come soon enough, so he got himself tossed out.

The artist formerly known as Ron Artest — then more recently known as "The Panda's Friend" — was playing in the NBA as recently as last year, but he has apparently entered the European phase of his basketball career. On Wednesday, he got involved in a dust-up following a hard foul on Cantù teammate Darius Johnson-Odom (a Marquette product who had cups of coffee with the Lakers and 76ers).

One thing led to another, as they so often do with World Peace (he is still listed on Cantù's Web site), and although it was nothing close to the infamous "Malice at the Palace," it was enough to earn him an ejection.

For whatever reason — does there need to be a reason? — World Peace has "The Panda's Friend" on the back of his jersey, which is just fantastic. Otherwise, not a ton seems to have changed, and please don't ever change, Ron Metta Panda.

The video is pretty sad.  Is it normal at Italian basketball games to throw stuff at the players (over a glass panel that surrounds the crowd), and for the players to respond by flipping the double bird at the fans?  In the US it would be top story, fines and suspensions and citations for all.
