TAMU, Knower of Ball

I disagree with this statement. The warrior brand is still alive and very well recognized within the student body.

I'm down for this.

It's alive amongst the fanatics. Among regular students? Not so much. Eventually, there will be no one left to fight the Golden Eagle Mascot.

We messed up in 1994. I understand and agree with the reasons, but not the execution. The Joan of Arc route would have been epic on so many levels. Probably too late now

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

There is a generation of MU graduates who have no affiliation to the Warriors nickname. It will probably be talked about for years by a vocal minority but will never come back for a number of reasons. It's time to move on.

As for those T-shirts, I call B.S. For starters, the nickname never was Marquette The Gold. It was simply "Gold." Like Harvard Crimson, Stanford Cardinal.

Also, why would a Gold T-shirt have a Golden Eagles logo on it?

I had to check the date of the post to make sure it wasn't supposed to go up April 1.

Can we at least go back to the old bird logo?  I never understand why teams insist on cartoony logos; there are so many cool things you could do with an eagle.

Probably wouldn't have had this happen if we hadn't embraced your profile pic there, ai'na?

Nah, probably wouldn't have gained traction, if someone other than than Sam Sauceda had been the AD, hey?

Bottom line is that ts about money.  DiUlio took a big ass bribe in the name of the university from the Potawatomi to ditch the name forever.

The university does not like to talk about this.  That's the only reason they aren't logical about this.

That's the story that has circulated on scoop for years.

I worked in sports(collegiate) licensing at the time of the name change.  These are definitely bootlegs, probably produced by someone local with a small screen print machine. Maybe they are 10 years old.  But they also could have been made a couple weeks ago.  I extremely doubt these ever made it to a major retailer, even as samples.

"The Gold" was never registered with CLC (Collegiate Licensing Company) which managed all the licensed product for Marquette.  So there was no need for the small circle R logo.  And unless the vendors name is on the label,  ie.. Champion, Nike... the name is required somewhere on the garment.

There are a lot of cool collectibles like the championship t-shirts/hats for the eventual Super Bowl loser.  I have about of dozen of these.  People just seem to scratch their heads when they see me in my Houston Oilers Super Bowl Championship tee with Warren Moon on it.
