Wade for President

One of the greatest head scratchers in recent MU lore, is Derrick Wilson's struggle at the free throw line.

43% from the charity stripe this year.  43%!!!

To put that in perspective, Shaq shot 53% for his career from the free-throw line.

Can you think of a guard that has a worst ft percentage than DW?  Seriously.

This couldnt have been put into one of the other 40,000 Derrick bashing threads
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Well the team is shooting 40% right now so.......
Goal is National Championship
CBP profile my people who landed here over 100 yrs before Mayflower. Most I've had to deal with are ignorant & low IQ.
Can't believe we're living in the land of F 452/1984/Animal Farm/Brave New World/Handmaid's Tale. When travel to Mars begins, expect Starship Troopers

Technically the rest of team is at 50%

Seven more games and no one will have to worry about it/discuss it any further.

My leading returning candidate would be Cohen, but it's very possible a "transfer outsider" takes that title.

Dominic James shot 46% his Senior year

NersEllenson

I'm not sure I ever recall a guard banging as many FT attempts off the glass as does Derrick.  Dom James became a poor Free Thrower, but usually his misses were at least of the clanging off the rim (not backboard variety.)

5 for 12 tonight, 41%.....

After shooting nearly identical 65% in each of this first 3 years.....Buzz factor...."turning him loose"

Wade for President

Not looking to bash DW...it's just that I'm thoroughly confused as to how a guard can struggle that much.

Furthermore, I don't know how more teams don't try and exploit a Hack-a-Derrick strategy.

When your team can't score there's no need to hack anyone.

WellsstreetWanderer

It seems to me that ALL of Derrick's shots hit the back of the rim: layups, free throws and jump shots

Right, or let MU shoot threes.  3 for 15 tonight and 1 for 10 last game.  That is not good.

Wasn't Mayo here?  Burton?  Dawson?  Pretty sure Dawson and Burton were at least 75+% FT shooters and 28%+ 3 point shooters.  Not to mention both physically had Big East ready bodies - and looking at Cheatham and Cohen, both of these guys need to add A LOT of strength.  JJJ and Duane too.

Dawson?! He's playing at Liberty now...

I was casually listening to the game on the radio.  I thought I heard the radio announcer say that a Marquette woman player is the FT% leader in the nation and has over 40 straight free throws.  Wojo, get that woman for lessons!
