Serious question - what did we do to "play not to lose" down the stretch? That's the most common go-to complaint anytime someone loses or wins a close game.

I wanna know, what could MU done differently given their personnel?

Twice at the end we broke the press and had 3 on 1 and 4 on 2 and chose to pull it out and run time 5 on 5 rather than attacking the goal.  That is playing not to lose rather than playing to win.

There were about 4 possessions under the 5 minute mark where we broke their press and had 3-1 and 3-2 opportunities and Derrick didn't attack them.  JJJ and Duane did.  But we gave away about 4 good scoring opportunities in order to run clock and get terrible looks with a much higher degree of difficulty than what we could have had in the 3 on 1 and 3 on 2 looks.

We had a 3 on 1 and a 4 on 2 after breaking the press on two separate occasions with over 4 minutes left in the game and we pull the ball back.  This with a team that struggles to score and doesn't have their best scorer for the game.  Played not to lose down the stretch.  Then to top it off we create a turnover and don't even get a shot off in one situation and I think we had to force up a bad shot with another.  Played not to lose.

And then Wojo called timeout and told them they still need to attack when they beat the press.  Next possession, JJJ broke the press, attacked as Wojo told them to and scored.

A couple TOs hurt us the most, TOs are usually 50/50 good defense and poor choices.

They got a pretty darn good look there to tie the game, and appeared as if we had a chance to foul.

Agreed. MU should have fouled and had the chance to.  Also, credit to SH for its last possession.  Helluva pass from OB and then the quick TO, followed by the open look 3.

According to this Wojo did want to foul.

They did want to foul.  Right before the in-bounds, the TV had a shot of Wojo talking to a ref.  Lip reading, he said to the ref "We are going to foul, we are going to foul."

MU just couldn't get on the Pirate player quick enough.

We R Final Four

Good to hear. At least we have a coach who gets this important process at the end of the game....unlike the previous coach. I do think we had time to foul Gibbs on the inbound pass and could have avoided the unnecessary heart skip.
