After this new arena is built, those new owners should grease some officials or politicians and bring Milwaukee to the forefront in the state.  It'd be great for the community.  Out with the old in with the new.

Shark

The problem is that Milwaukee isn't near the center of the state.

Just a bit more of an already long hike for some people.  If they hate it, they can politely decline the invite.
The portal is NOT closed.

Looking at the history Lawrence College was the first site in 1905.  Time for Milwaukee to step up and get a few of these tourneys, imo.

WIAA will move the basketball tournament to Milwaukee as soon as they move the football playoffs to Lambeau Field.   So, around never.

Blackhat

Norquist must have pissed them off.   Now or never with this new arena.

TedBaxter

Never going to come to Milwaukee. Too much history between UW and WIAA.

There was already talk about moving it to Green Bay so what would make you think never Milwaukee?

MUfan12

Milwaukee is too diverse for the WIAA leadership's taste.

Asked WI2A officials about moving it to Milwaukee about 2 years ago. They wanted to say something along the lines of "Are you fricking nuts?" They politely inferred it'll be in Madison until about the same time MU adds a football team and changes its name back to Warriors.

So there's hope.

That's not the reason. The girls tournament is in Green Bay.  My guess it has more to do with allegiance to the rodent and where the rodent lives.

Blackhat

The old Norskies don't want to leave the homeland.

brewcity77

I believe the answer is never. Everyone further out than Waukesha thinks they'll all get shot if they come to the big, bad city.

Both the WIAA and UW really want it to be in Madison.  They worked schedules out so that it could be there in the future.

That's where its gonna stay.

Exactly.

The WIAA will already do anything it can to keep the City Conference from having any kind of advantage.  Moving it to Milwaukee will never happen.

GGGG

The weaknesses of the City Conference really have nothing to do with the WIAA.  The Conference has been a mess for awhile.

Kind of OT: Tom Oates has an all- century team:  http://host.madison.com/sports/high-school/basketball/boys/wiaa-boys-basketball-tom-oates-all-century-team-fifth-team/article_fa6d92c4-3d3d-5489-81e0-a73bc63d8a95.html

A couple of questions regarding WIAA:
1. Why do they use a 94-foot court with no shot clock in HS?
2. Why do they have their biggest weekend coincide with NCAA Tournament's first weekend (the biggest sports weekend of the year?)? Wouldn't it make sense to move it back 1 week?

Move to Milwaukee? Haha. That'll be the day. Can you imagine all those farmers venturing into the big, bad city?

1. The only time they use a 94 foot court is when they are playing the state tournament.  Usually they use an 84 foot court which is standard in high schools.  Regarding a shot clock, my guess is that it is in part a personnel issue.

2. It usually depends on when the Kohl Center is available.  I believe that last year it was the week prior.

I always thought that was odd.

About 20 years ago I was living in Madison.  Back then, you had to go to a sports bar to see any game that CBS wasn't showing in your area, so my wife I went to a small place not too far from campus that had only 1 TV.  Nobody was there yet and the bartender told me their policy for the TV was to play what the first person requests, so I asked him to turn on an out of area NCAA game.  Five minutes later a couple of people come in and ask to see the State tourney game.  He told them the TV was already called for.  The people didn't look like they were planning to buy much and started getting snarky, so the bartender tells them that if they want to see the game, they can always walk down the street to the Fieldhouse.  I gave him a nice tip....

And even that is in the relative safety of West Allis. That said, I can't imagine that flash mob style riot in the Midway helped alleviate any farmers' fears about this big bad city.
