What is the highest level we will achieve?

Win a Game in NCAA Tournament
Make NCAA Tournament
Make NIT Tournament
Winning Season-No Tourney
Losing Season
Final Four

Texas Western

We are now heading into a new season with Luke and without Deonte. What is the highest level you think we will achieve and what will our record be. My view is we will win the next 4 games for an 8-4 non conference. I continue to think we will go 7-2 at home, However , I think we will be 2-7 on the road now. I think we get one win in the Big East Tournament. So overall record 18-14 and an invite to NIT

MU is still undersized.  MU is still down to 8 players.  MU still doesn't have consistent scoring, though 2 of the 8 have shown some consistency.    The Big East is still improved.   No injuries, everything falls into place perfectly, Luke is the real deal, everyone improves over Christmas break..... NIT.    Just one thing goes wrong, injury, lack of development.... <.500.

Just added one in....

Lol I shoulda used teal, wasn't exactly seriously.

I hope we are able to finish 8-4 non conference.

Right now I think we are about 7-11 in conference with 9-9 still very, very possible. 11-7 is the ceiling but a lot would have to go right(7 wins at home and find a way to win 4 on road)

Injury to any scholarship player is a down right frightening thought.  And it's so early in the season still.

That and foul trouble in any game.

Eight scholarship players is just not a winning formula.  I think we'll be very competitive, but come up short (no pun intended) most of the time.

Interesting, and fortunate, thing so far this season is that there hasn't been any foul trouble at all. I can't think of a single player in a single game that's been in trouble (I'm too tired right now to see if any players have even had 4 fouls in a given game.) Is that something that Wojo is effectively getting across to the team? Is that a 'cause' of our matador defense, that has driven folks crazy?

Anyway, Steve in particular was a big concern regarding foul trouble, but he's totally stayed out of it. It might be interesting to see if he becomes any more aggressive on defense now that Luke will also be back there.

Yet another advantage of playing zone.  Zone tends to limit fouls versus man-to-man.

The Zone defense might be helping in keeping the fouls lower..

I think we have to play zone the rest of the year. Our margin of error is so small we can't afford foul trouble.

Four players got to four fouls against Tennessee-Martin but nothing like that has happened since.

Thanks for checking the data. As others correctly point out, the zone does help protect from foul trouble. That said, there has certainly been some frustrations with the zone, especially soon after it was rolled out. The matador defense against Michigan State comes to mind.

Yes, but as you pointed out, the MSU game was only our second game with the zone.  We played considerably better D against UT and UW-Madison, and I suspect Wojo has spent a lot of time working on it with the week off.  I'm far more worried about injuries than foul trouble....

I think we'll know a fair amount more by January 1.  If we can rattle off the next 5 (with important wins against ASU at home and DePaul on the road) while Luke comes up to speed I think we'll be okay for at least a decent season.  If we go 3-2 over this stretch......

Final Four. But only because National Championship wasn't an available option. Everyone else may fear Kentucky, but we always have their number in March.

Glad to see that four others have come to their senses and joined me on the Third Round projection.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
