Why go through the trouble? Would they need to pay him or something if they didn't CGI him?

Maybe the face that was CGI'd on top of Steve's was meant to resemble one of the characters in the movie?

Yes.  That guy was an actual character in the movie.  I am ashamed I didn't recognize Steve's perfect shooting form when watching that movie (with my wife, of course!)

That's the sort of work my oldest daughter does. Just finished a movie where she had to "prettify" an aging lead actress  (remove wrinkles and tighten up skin)
