Good thing that it didn't cost us the game.  Duke 16-17, 94%

Great win but we have to get better shooting those throws.

WashDCWarrior

Agreed, but pretty good down the stretch.  Duke really tried to make us prove that we could handle the pressure at the line.

Big Papi

Dom finally hit some throws.  What I don't get is when good shooters struggle with free throws. Fitz should be drilling free throws with his eyes closed not missing them at an alarming rate.

Yeah, we do. Cubillan looked confident up there, which is good. And funny thing is, regardless of his overall %, I always feel pretty confident with DJ at the line in late/clutch situations. But it is definitely something the team needs to work on.

But we can worry about that later. I'm just going to enjoy the win!

SoCalwarrior

Yep, DJ is pretty clutch.

McNeal needs to get better.  If he's going to continue to risk body and limb taking it to the hoop, he better make it worth it on the line.

crean should find out how coach k makes his team practice free throws...i have never seen a duke team that was not solid from the line from top to bottom.  (although shelden williams was pretty bad...)

Then you don't watch enough Duke ball, because we have had recent teams that have been horrible from the line.  Think Duke/Indiana in 2002.

LastWarrior

This is still my biggest concern with the team.  We can't be a great team without better FT shooting.  We have a few games to work out the kinks before Wisconsin so hopefully Coach Crean can get us straight.  That said, we've got to nip this in the butt before it starts to get in the players' heads that they can't hit free throws.  Clutch or not, a free throw 5 minutes into the game is worth as much as a free throw at the end of the game!

can't say i watch a ton of duke ball, even though it's hard to miss.  i'll take your word for it, but pointing out one bad game doesn't convince me that they were a bad free throw shotting team for the whole season.

regardless, i also agree that our free throws will prolly cost us one or two game this year down the stretch.  here's hoping i'm wrong.

Mayor McCheese

was always confused why Novak didn't teach the guys how to shoot those free throws (maybe he did)... but it was strange last year how one guy on our team didn't miss, and the rest missed them all, just start doing the 1 hour a day method, and bring in speakers to make noise, not music, but noise

You've gotta think it won't take long for a team to figure out the hack-a-UCONN technique that we used last year. The hilarity of the matter is that Ous and Jamil will throw down a mean percentage while our guards will shoot 50%.  So the catch is, if you wanna use the hack-a-Marquette method to win, you'll have to catch our guards first!!! No chance.
