Maymon Signs with Hapoel Tel Aviv Former Vol to Start Pro Career in Israel
Aug. 6, 2014

Former Tennessee forward Jeronne Maymon will start his professional basketball career in Israel after signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. Tuesday evening.
Maymon, who finished his career with the Vols in March, is scheduled to depart for his new team at the end of the month. The Israeli Basketball Super League's season begins in October.

"Being able to call yourself a professional athlete is a blessing in itself," Maymon said. "I am just thankful I'm able to to continue to play the game I love with a known team and a team with a great fan base. I'm very excited for what's to come and making the best of this opportunity."

While with the Vols from 2010-14, Maymon started 68 games in his final two seasons and ranks second in program history in career offensive rebounding average (2.87 orpg). One of his most memorable games was a 32-point, 20-rebound performance against Memphis during the 2011-12 season, a year in which he earned All-SEC honors.

Maymon is bringing the orange and white back to Israel's premier basketball league. Former Vol teammate Scotty Hopson (2008-11) played with Hapoel Eilat during the 2012-13 campaign.

Hapoel Tel Aviv finished last season ranked sixth in the 12-team league standings with an 15-13 record. The club is in Tel Aviv, the second-largest city in Israel located along the Mediterranean sea.

Is Daddy following him there to make sure he plays the right amount of time and at the right position?

Time to move on.

Hope he learns to duck and cover. Tough neighborhood these days.

yeah.... I hope he's getting a significant amount more than any other Euro league team was willing to pay, and even then I'm not sure it's worth it.

They callin' Jerusalem the largest city? Not certain that's correct. IIRC, Tel Aviv is one big metropolis equal to any world class city.

Let me break diz down for u, gentile.

City limitz and metro area b diff.

For example, Milwaukee b a rather large city compared to a Murderapolis or Shots Paul. 55% bigga than Mpls, well over double StP.

However, the MSP metro area is waaaay bigger than the Milwaukee metro. From downtown you drive through built up, 21st century beauty when going out to a plush suburb like me and my boi real chili rest at. Humanity everywhere.

When u go from MU's campus to ur haughty town, you travel through barren wastelands and separatist living. The 1% is divided by farmland from the regular folk.

Similarly, Tel Aviv's metro area is HUGE. Jeru city limits b bigga.
The portal is NOT closed.

Good for Jeronne. Wish things had been different with him.

I suspect Tim is back in Madison flipping burgers or changing oil.

Tel Aviv relatively safe these days, actually. The beaches are in full swing.

GGGG

I think we are used to living in such a large country that we don't have a great appreciation for how people can live so close to war and not be terribly affected by it.

The distance between Tel Aviv and Gaza is 50 miles.  It's kind of like Milwaukee to Waukegan.  That doesn't sound too much distance for a war to be away, but they are used to it.
