Little disconcerting that he's the tallest guy out there in most of the highlights- could take him awhile to get acclimated to the bigger bodies

Not to mention the "white loaves of bread" that he has all of his highlights against.  What do we call them here?  Traditionals?

I don't see many traditionals there at all....in fact maybe not even one.

A Shabazz Napier type??????

Strotty, what's your take?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

For what it's worth, a few of the educated UCLA fans here knew UCLA was looking at him and they are bummed he is going to MU.

There is a huge difference between high school and college. Clearly Mr. Cohen is very athletic and has the raw material required for success at the high D-1 collegiate level. If he can make it through the first semester of school and adapt his game to playing against guys who are of similar athletic ability, who are bigger and stronger then  he may be able to contribute in a small way next year.  My sense is it will take him a year to make the transition. We never really know with any of these recruits until they get on campus. On the whole I think he is a solid recruit and glad we have him.

I've watched 2 high school games that have been replayed here showing Cohen's team, Seymour.  He has a quick shot and has shot right over some kids.  At the DI level, this won't happen quite as often.  He has decent quickness, but seems to favor the outside shot rather than slashing to the hoop.  There is a red flag here as in the two games I watched, he was the tallest player on the floor.  He should have been able to dominate more, but didn't.  I would have liked to see him play with his back to the basket more, and get his hands dirty down low with his height advantage.  Nonetheless, the defense clamped down on him, with double and triple coverage at times so respect has to be given there.  If Wojo can coach him to drive to the hoop effectively, this will vastly improve Cohen's game, making him a dual threat.

As far as playing his freshman season, he's going to be restricted to his comfort zone, which is a catch and shoot player on the perimeter - similar to what Steve Novak what his freshman year.  I could see him having a Jake Thomas game or two (4-5 , 3 pointers in a game), as long as he progresses mentally and plays defense.

Almost everything is based on AAU play when it comes to rankings. And AAU is especially important when attending a smaller high school that doesn't play against top level kids. Some of these kids play 70-80 AAU games in the off-season. They travel and play against top players from around the country. That is where the real evaluation goes on for college coaches. No schools contacted Cohen until he played AAU ball before his junior year. Then he was contacted by Kentucky, Marquette, Wake, & Memphis among others.

A coach will travel to Seymour just so he can be seen by Cohen - but he isn't going to learn much watching him play against teams where the big man may be 6'3" or 6'4".

Reminds me of Juan Anderson, so lets settle down. This MCW crap is the reason you jump all over players when they don't perform.

Just watching this highlight clip, and Juan was doing things that I've never seen him do at MU.  Hopefully Wojo can get him back on track for his last yr.

You can definitely learn a lot from watching him play against High School competition.  You're watching him play against a more cohesive defensive unit.  AAU ball is crap in terms of schemes/defenses and has been always criticized for not teaching fundamentals.  AAU ball is a showcase that is closer to And 1 basketball than authentic "coached up" basketball.

Cohen matched up well against some pretty tough teams this year.....West De Pere three times....has two D 1 players this year  6' 8 and 6' 6 both excellent players....MU interested in 6 8 kid.   Cohen will do well at MU

Agreed.  Juan Anderson 2.0.  He'll need some time to develop but could be solid

same length and same athlete but Cohen is a better shooter, better ballhandler and better passer IMO.  His 3 point form is better and he dribbles better in traffic then Juan showed in HS.  Juan has some flash to his game in HS but I don't think the Highlights were reflective of how he really played or scored.

Cohen does need to fill out quite a bit.

Agreed after having watched three of his games in February and March.  Much different player than Juan.  Not sure he has to fill out that much as he needs to get stronger as he does have a sturdy looking frame.

I hope you don't coach hoops. If you think Cohen's form is better than Juan's, you need help. Juan has a great looking jumper, just rarely goes in. Confidence is such a huge part of basketball, maybe Wojo can get Juan going...who knows.

I guess the ball does need to go in once in a while?  Juan's jumper from the top of the key off a pass in transition is good.  He is very poor elsewhere despite his form.

To all, good form, bad form, look at the box score, Juan can not score, bottom line.  Cohen we will see in the next few years.  He does have a left hand, Juan does not.   Did see him play, first
half my thought was why did they recruit this Kid?  Second half he had over 20 points, from inside and out.  Very impressed, hope he does not end up like Jamil Wilson, one half wonder.
