Wojo would be a good get for MU and Duke would miss him, especially when it comes to game planning and Xs and Os.

chapman

Better than the Tennessee fans' reaction of "Thank God, please take him!"

Took me to a log in page

Let's just say they aren't exactly terrified if Wojo leaves the staff.  A lot of sarcasm on the site about the impact it would have to their recruiting class, etc.

Who is ever terrified of an assistant coach leaving?

Is Cuse trembling about Hopkins going to BC?

Depending on the head coach....

On the flip side, who ever has bad things to say about the assistant coach?  Did he do the gameplan for the Mercer or LeHigh games?  :D

Sailfish30

Who cares?  Did he do the game plan for all the other games?

You are new to this board......it's an old joke.

Yeah, because MU fans withered into the fetal position when Ted Kowalczyk and Tony Benford left.
Seriously, Chicos.

Mike_Marquette

Too bad This all wasn't a year ago and Chris Collins was there for the taking.

I think you are proving my point.  No one says anything bad about assistant coaches, which is why Duke fans saying good things about Wojo really doesn't mean much IMO.

Maybe he's the guy, maybe he is all that.  No one knows.  I'll be disappointed if again we have to get another assistant coach, and that include Dwayne Stephens whom I actually threw out there as someone to look at (certainly not near the top of my list).

How does anyone actually know a coach is an Xs and Os guy and how do you know his input is what the head coach listens to/uses?  Just curious.

We weren't exactly thrilled with what the UNO boards were saying when we hired Buzz. Heck, if VA Tech fans or Indiana fans looked on this board about Buzz and Crean, they probably would think that weren't getting that great of a coach.

Ardmore Mug

And they would be correct ! ! !   ;)

As a Duke grad and lifelong MU fan, I feel Wojo would be an awful hire.  He was tasked with coaching the big men before Capel arrived on the scene and was abysmal.  Big men under his tenure showed very little progression and it was always an area of weakness for Duke.

Collins was the assistant to hire.  The offense took a huge step backwards without him on the staff.

To be realistic one never knows when hiring. We fans certainly know only superficial facts as we do not sit in on the interviews, nor do we see the results of due diligence.

With a selection of one who has been a head coach, we fans at least see a track record, and the University can judge a head coach's leadership style. Things are a bit more murky with an assistant coach and I do not see any assistant as being an "impact hire."

A bit of a crap shoot either way, with the odds a bit better for someone with head coach experience.

Is it completely out of the question for MU to take a shot at Collins?

I would think so.  Has a commitment from Northwestern and a no-lose opportunity to build a program in a top 3 conference.  Will be a hero simply by making the NCAAs.  And he is just one year in.
