Marquette actually spends more on basketball per player than most programs in the country. There is a donor up there, Dick Strong, who basically pays the coaches salary. He is even granted an interview with potential coaching candidates. Things work a little differently at the private schools.

Martin played at Purdue for Gene Keady and is part of Keady's coaching tree, which includes Purdue's Matt Painter, Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings, St. John's Steve Lavin and Kansas State's Bruce Weber.
