Was there.  Fantastic memories ( though, clouded by celebration at Underground Atlanta till the wee hours of the morning and just barely making the plane home ).

Same here...except the underground till the wee hours thing.  Being 14 at the time kinda limited my partying options...but getting Butch's autograph at the Atlanta airport helped fill the void.

Is it true you guys threw TV sets out the window because after watching MU win, there would be nothing else worth watching on TV anymore? That was the legend I was told when I lived in McCormick in 1986.

Here are some high quality pics from the game. NCAA Sports owns the rights to these, so please just view and don't download.

Stormed the court at The Omni in Atlanta. I remember it today like it was yesterday.

A thing I hope to witness in my lifetime!  Had to be the most amazing feeling to watch that!
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

It was awesome, we knew we had a great coach and a good team, everyone knew there roles but still we played the underdog.
No team with that many losses made it at the time and it seemed like a long road to get to Atlanta. What I remember
most was the football pass from Lee to Whitehead with "Cornbread Maxwell" tipping it and JW laying it up on the rim! MKE
was crazy, over the moon and everyone knew the Marquette Warriors had arrived!

I watched the game with my girlfriend's dad in Vince Lombards basement. He was a graduate of MU's medical school. Very reserved guy but he was jumpin up and down and screaming that day.

They bought the house when Lombardi left Green Bay and the family still owns it.

Love the picture of Butch and Al.

Small world.  My dad went to med school with Dr. G, and I've been to that house too.

DoggyDaddy

I was there, too. By some mix-up of tickets I sat next to the McGuire family for the first half. Even after they got it right, I sat close enough to see Al cry at the end.
When Dean Smith went to four corners with the game tied we were apprehensive. Then Bo, Toone and Whitehead took all the defensive boards and Butch, Jimmy and Rosey make all their free throws.
Sea shells and balloons forever.

I don't recall our TV set going out the window. I do recall my roommate throwing his beer at the screen during the game while NC was in the four corners.  I can't speak for other floors' TVs because I was busy running down Wisconsin Avenue.  :)

I do not know about this, but in '79-'80 I can confirm that a TV was thrown out the window of 4th floor Schroeder Hall's lounge. We had a party, the keg ran out, and a couple of drunk ex highschool football players threw the TV right through the window, and smashed the lounge table to splinters. 4th floor Schroeder had a bad rep back then we were put on probation for the rest of the year. They told us that if we kept the unruly behavior we were going to get kicked out of the dorms. Like we really cared, many more crazy things happened after...

CBP profile my people who landed here over 100 yrs before Mayflower. Most I've had to deal with are ignorant & low IQ.
Can't believe we're living in the land of F 452/1984/Animal Farm/Brave New World/Handmaid's Tale. When travel to Mars begins, expect Starship Troopers

Steve Rushin mentions the TV thing. Still one of my all time favorite SI columns...

I was also a proud resident of Schroeder 4 in 2005-2006. Not much had changed

Tums Festival

4th floor Schroeder in '82-'83 and was here for the Brewers World Series run. They said the celebration going down Wisconsin Ave. after they beat the Angels was not even close to the one in '77.
