I'm hearing we have LOTS of money to pay coaches (hopefully we do). How did we accumulate all the money that a blueblood program may or may not have?

Our basketball program is profitable, we are private, and we don't have to pay for football... need to stay relevant in CBB to keep university profile high.

So we could say the same about every other program in the Big East?

Bank robberies.

I am not so sure Seton Hall, Providence and Depaul at least are as profitable as Marquette:)

There may a booster or two involved as well...

Dick Strong's sizable wealth doesn't hurt our ability to pay top dollar.

New television deal gives as a bunch more money, getting payout from more tournament shares than ever, attendance was actually up a little this year, though the hire will be critical in determining excitement moving forward.

I dunno, man. I just read on this board that the program isn't worth a damn.

I am the source.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

MU's annual budget is north of $450m per year.

If it was explained that MU spent $3m each year on marketing, no one would blink an eye.

Chalk a $3m salary up to the best marketing Marquette can buy.

Besides Creighton, our attendance numbers are ahead of the other Big East schools by a pretty large margin, meaning more revenue.

Also, we can pay our basketball coach as much as we want.  Most football schools (not named Kentucky or Duke) will pay their football coach more than the basketball coach, so if they pay a ton for the basketball coach, they end up paying more for football also, and then the assistants, etc..

ChitownSpaceForRent

I think the biggest indicator of how much money MU actually has was Chew's contract last year. Anybody can pay a lot of money for a good head coach but Chew what making a ridiculous amount.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

We have more women's sports than men's sports. This allows us to put a ridiculous amount of money into our flagship sport so we don't violate Title IX. Football schools do the same thing but dump it all into football
