Crean resigned on March 28, 2008.  This board peaked at 652 visitors, a level which held until March 20, 2011 when it hit 704 visitors. (first of three consecutive S16 games)

Buzz resigned on March 21, 2014.  This board peaked at 14,806 visitors.

How much of that is the natural growth of this board and how much of that is increased interest in MU basketball?

Have you studied it?

Seriously only 652 after Crean?  I find that hard to believe.

Me too.  That can't be right.  I remember that afternoon well and this board just about melted.

Heard it went way up his time due to a link from SI.

Makes more sense...never more than ~1,100 online before, then over 14k.

Yeah .. that 14,000 visitor peak is suspect.  I was on scoop before, during, and after that figure appeared.  It was around 1000, then for about an hour hit 14000 and the site became non-responsive.  Suddenly it dropped to 2500.  It's possible some website linked to us and a huge amount of traffic hit .. but would they disappear in one hour?  Likely not.

Anyhow .. Crean quit on April 1st, 2008 .. for some perspective, Scoop's bandwidth usage the day before was around 700 megs.  The day he resigned, it was 3 gigs, or about 3x the volume.

Fast forward to Buzz, the day before we were averaging 1.7 gigs, but on Friday, that spiked to a whopping 9 gigs, and 6 on Saturday.

The long and short of it is, Scoop has an average of 3x more traffic than it did in 2008.  The spike to 9 gigs was likely the biggest day in Scoop's 8 year history.

(Looking back to our E8 run, the biggest day in March-April 2013 was 4 gigs .. so Friday has got to be #1.)

... As for your premise about a gauge for MUBB interest .. I suppose you could say the number of superfans have increased, but not sure that means overall interest has increased .. just more nerds with time on their hands!   :-*

I would bet the increase in MUScoop traffic correlates to the decrease in traffic at the Dodds defends all things MU & Brett Favre board.

You mods need to sell ad space. None of us have any issue with you guys monetizing this. Thanks for all you do.

As always, Rocky and Spiral deserve the credit, me and SoCal are coat-tail riders.

.. It's also interesting the Wiki traffic.  We (I) pushed it a lot in the first 2-3 years, trying to get it built, but have largely ignored it lately.  Man .. I remember we used to have contests to see who could edit the most amount of pages.  Got a lot of history done there.

Traffic
2007: .5 gigs of bandwidth used
2008: 37 gigs
2009: 40 gigs
2010: 45 gigs
2011: 58 gigs
2012: 65 gigs
2013: 95 gigs

Its traffic has grown 3x since 2008.   I think in retrospect, I'm prouder of the wiki.  No offense to you Scoop people, but you are all nerds and your commentary is worth less than a cup of coffee.   :-*

The wiki .. that's gonna be a solid reference for decades.

Hey .. who wants to edit this?  http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/buzz_williams

And I will take credit for editing the "Marquette University" Wikipedia page to include the MUScoop Wiki.  I linked it under "Marquette Sports Info and History" toward the bottom of the page under "external links" but it's gone now (it was up for a very long time).
