Starting line up against Nova
« on: March 01, 2014, 10:33:25 PM »
Is this the game where starting our usual D Wilson, Thomas, Anderson, J Wilson and Otule line up hurts us?  We can all agree that this is not a game we can afford a slow start.  I just don't see us coming back from 7-10 down by the first TV time out.  I think we need to start fast.

Wilson
Thomas
Mayo
Wilson
Otule

And get Gardner in at the first dead ball whistle.

I just don't see us coming back from a slow start against this opponent.  Maybe time to switch it up.

I'd like to hear the board's thoughts on this.

Once Gardner is in, that is our best lineup. But Buzz has yet to start Mayo this season. I would be surprised if he switches things up when we've been playing so well

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Start Mayo and Davante.  Roll the dice.

Start Mayo and Davante.  Roll the dice.

If Davante starts, it would have to be at the 4. Otule gives us a much better chance of winning the jump ball.

I like the lineup of Wilson, Thomas, Mayo, Wilson, and Otule -- I don't think we'll see Mayo start though. I'm guessing Anderson will be in there to start and Mayo will come in right before the first TV timeout.

We need Davante to get Nova into foul trouble but remain out of foul trouble.

I highly doubt Buzz will alter the lineup.

If he does, I don't think Gardner will start.

To clarify I don't think Buzz will change the line up either.

I just don't think we can afford to start slowly against Villanova when Otule is our 3rd best offensive player in our usual starting line up.  Have Otule get the tip then sub him out as soon as possible.  I'd start Mayo over Anderson as this does two things:  It gives us immediate offense and it allows Thomas to find open looks as he's much more effective with Mayo in the game because Mayo's penetration causes defenses to have to rotate which is when open shooters are found.

I'd prefer to see three things from a rotation standpoint this game.

1.  As much of our 3 guard offense as possible.

2.  If Thomas is resting, get Burton in the game as he is a very difficult defensive match up and he can score quickly in limited minutes.

3.  Limit Anderson and Otule at the same time.  If Jamil needs a breather get Anderson in to spell him with Gardner and If Gardner needs a rest make sure Jamil is in the game with Otule.

The ONLY way we stand a chance at winning is if we score a lot of points.  Nova shoots the three and let's face the fact that team's get open looks from 3 no matter who our defenders are, therefore we need as many scorers on the floor as possible.

He's never liked DG to start. I think it's mostly to keep him out of foul trouble. Early on, I think it was to keep his energy and fitness levels high or recharged.
