How Chris Otule won the game for Marquette Saturday

Chris Otule won the game for Marquette Saturday afternoon. Look at the box score and you’ll see he only scored 12 points and had four rebounds — all on the offensive end — in the game. He also missed his three free throw attempts in Marquette’s 96-94 win over DePaul. Don’t tell Buzz Williams that […]<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=painttouches.com&blog=28348875&post=11151&subd=painttouches&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

Dang. I am def not a fan of Chris(only Juan ranks below him...by a wide margin). But you show me some stats I ain't gona complain.

I still don't see the reasoning in sitting Davante though. What Chris did on O was what Ox did for 1.5 games. Score at will(but Ox converts fts). As you see by the score, defense was not a plus for us no matter who was in.

So props to Chris forsure, but questioning keeping your best weapon out of rhythm against a team that simply cannot defend the post is something that is reasonable. Whether you coach D1 or not.

I don't know how he does it, but a few times yesterday Otule just held off what seemed like the whole DePaul team to allow easy drives and lay ins for other players.  I thought he played great yesterday after halftime.  It is unfortunate that to get those good minutes fro Otule we have to sacrifice PT for Gardner.

This sums up the whole team this year.  Not enough two way players.  Jamil is close, but not consistent.  All have some combination of several of the following weaknesses:

  • Decent on O, but a step behind on D
Plays good positional D, but cannot guard good players 1 on 1
    Good D, No O
Good O against some teams and schemes, lost against others
    No court vision
Vanishes for stretches of the game
    Makes bonehead fouls and plays
an on and on and on

Strongly agree.  This explains our frustrating inability to play with better teams.  I would add:

Prone to inexplicable runs of turnovers.
