Was just wondering if anyone had any insight into Duane Wilson and if he might finally play tomorrow against Samford. I'm torn on whether we should just try and redshirt him or go ahead and play him this year to get experience under his belt, the 18 conference games plus Big East tournament could possibly help his development more than just practicing with the guys.

I know no more than you do and I would prefer that he redshirts, if he cannot make a significant difference. The one thing I wonder about is that the NCAA supposedly takes into accounts injuries. This does not matter at all, if Duane does not play the whole year. However, if he starts playing now and MU is a noticeable better team with him does it lead to NCAA committee down playing some of our early losses during the selection process?

If he can play he should play.  Never know.  He might have talent to not play for 4 years anyway.  If he redshirts this year, and only stays at school for two years, then we will all be saying he shouldn't have redshirted.

Point being, always get the kids to play because you never know what the future holds.

I agree to a point.  If he's healthy, let him play.  He needs the experience and minutes to prepare for later this season, but more importantly next year.

However, if it's a situation where he's not ready until February he's probably better off just redshirting unless Buzz feels he is ready to contribute and get significant minutes (~15 minutes per game).  I don't see a benefit in waiting that long and only playing 5 min/game (Junior).

Probably not......

And if he doesn't redshirt but he only plays about 5 minutes and then in 4 years we could use a starting point guard then we will all be saying he should have redshirted.  Kinda like Junior now...

I think it's silly to make decisions because someone who have never played a minute of NCAA basketball might go pro early.

Did anyone think Jimmy Butler would be a pro when he came to MU?  Probably not.

Did anyone think Lazar Hayward would be a pro when he came to MU?  Probably not.

Did anyone think Jae Crowder would be a pro when he came to MU? Probably not.

Did anyone think Dwyane Wade would be a pro after sitting out his Freshman year at MU?  Probably not until they heard rumors about practice.

My point is that no one knows how good a player will be until they actually play.  Could it be that Duane Wilson ends up a totally average player?  Sure.  But then we are getting 4 full years of an average player.  Could it be that Duane Wilson ends up being a total stud and leaves early?  Sure.  I trust MuMark's assessment and think he is implying that Duane isn't going to be an early draft entry player any time soon...  Which is fine.  I'm probably just too bummed out right now.  I was really hoping that Duane was going to play this year... now if the Packers lose on Sunday I won't have much to look forward to until pitchers and catchers report and the snow is gone... four months of boring.
