WILL LEITCH, he of deadspin fame and the worst kind of Illini Alum there is (a St. Louis-centric one) has decided to rank the Top 25 in College Hoops.  Apparently he did not use the following indices:

Are we a Top 10 job?  No...are we better than Temple and others 11-25, most definitely.

And from an Illinois alum, they couldn't even land TC.

Overall, I th nk it's a pretty good list. I'd argue that MU is a better job than Memphis and Maryland, but...like it or not...like Chicos mentioned with the Illini and Champaign, we've got Milwaukee itself weighing us down.

If the author had written about Marquette the way he did the Top 25, I think he might have said this...

Marquette -- Al McGuire has been dead for more than a decade and hasn't coached in more than 35 years, but his ghost blankets this program. It's as if nothing existed before or after Al and it's what Duke might become if someday Coach K leaves and the transition is handled poorly. Marquette today is a program trying to recapture its past with a dynamic young coach, Buzz Williams. If they keep him, they're likely to recapture their glory. If they don't, they are just another fading program trying to break-out.

Aside from the weather,  Milwaukee has way more pluses than minuses relative to many college towns.

PRN, I believe you live in Chicagoland.  Chicago is one of the greatest cities in the World.  Compared to Chicago, Milwaukee has its faults but judged against the rest of America is actually a pretty good place.   One thing I have noticed with my out of town MU friends is their MKE knowledge is Water Street Brewery or Wolski's.  This town has actually evolved quite nicely.

I would take MKE or CHI 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.  I realize we all have our biases, etc and I will get slammed, but I much much prefer MKE to Chicago on so many fronts.  Big enough city without some of the nonsense that goes along with a major city.

I like Milwaukee and my wife grew up there. In fact, if it wasn't for my mother in law, I'd probably move there! I just think it, and Marquettes campus, are not exactly selling points.

Temple, Oklahoma St., UNLV and Wichita St. have no business on that list. 

I would swap in Marquette and NOVA for at least two of those 4.  Then maybe add Gonzaga also.

Wichita St seems like an oddity, but then I realized it's more abouthow he was doing the rankings - they're the only program in that conference that pays money and commits to things like private jets. It should be a nice, cushy, winnable job for whoever has it. Programs that also seem high, like Texas, are because the pressure to win big is lower and they have so many natural advantages (recruiting, no limit on money, and perfect facilities). Temple still doesn't make sense though.

This is not Top 25 programs, it's Top 25 JOBS.

That's a good point.  I think Buzz likes the job, but I don't think he would ever say that the job...or keeping it is easy.

Living in Philly, I know that Temple does not rule Philadelphia. The top players in the area prefer Villanova (or Syracuse). Also, it is a cash poor school; they just cut 7 athletic programs.

Maybe Leitch is down on MU bc we were able to steal an assistant coach from his alma mater by basically doubling his salary.  How were we able to do that?  Oh, yeah, right, because we're a better job.  More money, more resources.

What's wrong with Milwaukee. I loved my time at MU in the sixties; and Milwaukee and the MU campus looked like a war zone with all the urban redevelopment going on at the time. Never met nicer people willing to help students like me (from New Jersey) feel like they were home.
