Reading threads

Why is it that for some threads you have the option to view all and for others you do not? I'd really like it if after a thread went to the second page of posts, that the "view all" option kicked in. Thanks.

View All disappears when the thread has more than 2 pages.    (or is it 1.5 pages?  Somewhere in there.)

Otherwise, the server would be chugging trying to view all in a thread with 5, 10, 15 pages.
