Mookie Jones will be announcing tomorrow that he's committing to Syracuse.. (per Zags blog)

Mookie Jones will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in the library at Peekskill High School to announce his intention to attend Syracuse University.

The story was first broken by NYCHoops.Net on Saturday evening when a source close to the Syracuse program said Jones told various Orange players during his official visit this past weekend he intended to commit to the Big East school.

Since then, Jones, No. 6 among small forwards in the Class of 2008 according to Rivals, has cancelled his upcoming official visits to Rutgers and St. John's. He had previously visited Marquette and DePaul.

"He did cancel his visits to Rutgers and St. John's," Peekskill coach Lou Panzanaro said Monday evening.

Asked when the 6-6 Jones made his decision, Panzanaro said: "We talked (Sunday) night before our game (at IS8) and I think his decision had pretty much been made. I asked him to wait until 3 o'clock (Monday) so we could make one last evaluation.

"We just talked again about certain advantages and disadvantages about the different programs and I said to him, 'Are you ready to call the coaches now?' And he said, No, he'd do it (Tuesday)."

Jones would become Syracuse's third commit from the Class of 2008, following 6-7 F James Southerland, currently at Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep, and 6-7 F Kris Joseph of Archbishop Carroll in Washington, D.C.

With Jones now off the board, Rutgers will focus on 6-6 SF Pat Jackson of Brooklyn Boys & Girls, who is down to Rutgers and Virginia Tech; 6-8 PF Dwight Miller of Houston St. Pius X, who has numerous suitors and is slated to make an official visit to RU Thursday for the South Florida football game; and 6-7 SF/PF Kevin Jones of Mount Vernon, who also has at least half a dozen schools on his list.

St. John's is also in the Kevin Jones Sweepstakes, but recently lost out on both Sylven Landesberg (Virginia) and Canadian star Devoe Joseph, who is looking at other programs.
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.
