I don't believe that that was the message.  In addition, I think that there have been some credible statements on MUScoop along the lines of the two of them being good friends.  I believe FreeportWarrior's point was more along the lines of Stone (or at least his Dad) believing that college would be a good time for Diamond to step out on his own without Duane.
That's pretty much what I am saying. This summer I had a conversation with the parent of a kid on Diamond's AAU team, who I've know for a few years. In response to my question about how having Duane at MU would affect his decision, he said: "Put it this way: I wouldn't say it's a plus." His words. A couple things, they were high school teammates for two years, it's not like they are lifelong friends. They are also two years apart. Duane was "the man," the entire time. It's Diamond's time now. Maybe some on the board don't understand the AAU culture and high school basketball that well. It is every man for himself. The egos are absolutely insane. It is rare to see true "teams," it is mostly players/parents looking out for themselves. Duane's dad looks out for Duane. Diamond's dad looks out for Diamond. They all understand PR and would never slam each other, but AAU is filled with a ton of frenemies. They are looking for the best situation to personally showcase their skills. Our recruit, Flory, was on a pretty good AAU team to start the year (Playground Elite), but his family didn't like the way he was used so they switched to Playground Warriors. Everyone is looking out for themselves. That's the way it is. Thinking Duane and Diamond have to be the best of friends because they spent two years in a hs team together is naive. I'm just telling you what I've heard -- I would love to be wrong.

That all makes sense. But I think the 2 year buffer should actually help. It means that no matter what, Diamond is going to have 2 Duane-free years. They aren't really competing with eachother, they are different positions and 2 years apart.

The bottom line is MU doesn't automatically get a bump because a 5 star recruit resides in the area. Kids like Stone and Looney can go anywhere and frequently will choose to do so. Buzz will eventually sign one, but he may be from TX, CA, NY, or Bumblef uck.

I hope you're wrong, too, though you seemed much more sure of your information earlier. No way Stone goes to MU, Stone's Dad doesn't like Buzz and his "schtick", Stone prefers UW to MU, etc. All that still the inside scoop?

I'm no more sure of the information today as I was when I posted it. I was just telling you what I had been hearing - that's it. I won't feel vindicated if Stone goes somewhere else, and I won't feel like I was relaying "lies" if he does. I'm just a dude passing along the info I've been hearing. I have a kid that is pretty engrained in the AAU scene and watch a lot of games and talk to a lot of parents during the summer and bball seasons. Inside scoop? — I don't know — I just thought some here would find it interesting.

Good players in East BF too.

Freeport - like Wadesworld, I appreciate your input to Scoop and have found it informative and, to my recollection, accurate - but on this, I'm not sure what being "no more sure of the information today as I was when I posted it" means. You were very sure then - stated declaratively that Stone was not coming to Marquette, no ifs, ands, buts or qualifiers. I assume you're still as positive of this?

I'm certainly not positive, but based on all the info I heard last spring and summer, I would say he's is not coming to Marquette. The only reason that I would back away from "stating it declaratively" today is because I have not heard a thing about him in a few months. On another front in which I have much more direct intel, Riley Lachance is down to Vandy and Iowa.

Thanks for clarifying.

The Lens

I have heard from someone who knows both very well that the premise that the families might enjoy some time apart is a very plausible premise.

Let's hope 2 years apart is enough for absence to make their hearts grow fonder :D

LaChance committed to Vandy tonight.
