Ran into a guy I know from MU's development office at a fund raiser last night.  Had a long discussion with him on various topics:

1.  Athletic Director:  He doesn't think that there will be any serious search until "after the Holiday's."  Said that some of the potential candidates want to be with a football school.  He believes that MU will eventually need to add more sports--mentioned crew in particular.  The candidate will also need to be comfortable with fund raising.  No big surprise there.

2.  Soccer Stadium:  He thinks the total package will cost about $8 mil.  Big concern is lack of parking near the Valley Fields, what with the casino sucking up most of the available land and the new H-D Museum taking what's left.  Concerned about the added cost if a parking structure will be required by the City.

3.  McCormick Hall:  No plans to replace McCormick, as the University cannot handle the cost at this time.  Not part of the campus tour for prospective students unless specifically requested by a parent, who, not surprisingly, usually spent some time inside the can.

Take it for what's it worth--just a cocktail hour chat.

Two actually. And last year they got a state of art field turf field.

I would really like to see the crew club become a team. They row against the good schools in the area, and usually do decent.

What about Lacrosse?  When I was there our club Lacrosse team usually did pretty well...in fact I think they were ranked for a short time.

Lacrosse probably hit bottom of the list after their hazing complications. Not too mention they get the worst time to practice at the Old Gym, something like 10:30.

I'm think Crew because they have equipment, teams are smaller, and both women/men already participate.

But then rugby has been doing pretty good for both sexes.

Maybe I'm biased because I also went to a "lacrosse school," but I for one would love to see MU develop a D1 lacrosse program. 

It's one of the fastest growing sports in the country (growing like wildfire here in CO) and is not nearly as expensive as setting up a football program.  Notre Dame (wait...I just had to swallow a little vomit from typing those words) has a great lacrosse program that competes well against some of the nation's best programs.

yup. and it's expanded dramatically since then....and its a good mix of men and women who play.  would be great to see MU pick it up

I don't know about that, but the sport has really been growing recently.  Last season's "Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic" featured four of the nation's top D1 lacrosse programs.  The double-header drew more than 20K fans...for what was basically a regular season game.

Once that soccer stadium is built, no reason MU can't attract some lacrosse talent with a decent program.  I don't think it's worth anyone falling on their sword to create a lacrosse program, but on the other hand it couldn't hurt.

It's really a lot of fun to watch.

Holy macrel...just had a flashback.  I was a HS senior (1988) and on a shadow visit to MU when my host took me to, yep, a MU club lacrosse game. 

Does the lacrosse club team still keep a full keg on their sideline?

True enough, but I can tell you it really is out here on the west coast.  It has been added to many intermediate and high schools.  It's become quite the deal out here with more and more schools adding the sport.

As a Nor Caler, I can substantiate Chico's statement. It is very popular out here and with the National Lacrosse League, I would say that people are paying more attention to it than before.

That's actually not true. I'm currently a tour guide and we go in McCormick all the time. People actually appreciate the fact that we are showing them the smallest rooms on campus because then they know how bad it can get instead of showing them the ridiculous rooms in Abbottsford Hall and leaving the rest to the imagination if they don't get assigned there.

Nope, not since Valley Fields opened.  The games up at King Field were different story because it wasn't on campus.
