While Gee is obviously as arrogant as any Buckeye, he does raise a good point. Solely looking at academics, Louisville and Kentucky are mid major material at best. If I was a B1G president, I would never want them in my league.

But hey...at least they aren't Memphis

From the conference that just added Nebraska?

Remember how important that AAU status thing was? What a joke.

Gee is arrogant, but it pales in comparison to the arrogance of the No Dick supporters.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Actually, Nebraska was an early member of the AAU joining in 1909, and was only removed in 2011, in part because its medical school was under separate administration and its research dollars couldn't be counted in the total received by the University.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Looks like Gordon Gee is in a bit of hot water .... the trustees must be a bunch of untrustworthy Catholics.

Ohio State Board Warns President Over Comments

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324412604578517321096875086.html?mod=WSJ__MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsForth

A letter from the Ohio State University board of trustees chastised president Gordon Gee for joking comments he made about Catholics and cautioned him that similar instances could prompt punitive action, including dismissal.

The March 11 letter came in the wake of comments Mr. Gee made at a December meeting of the school's athletic council, during which he joked that "those damn Catholics" couldn't be trusted. Mr. Gee's comments came to the board's attention in January, according to a statement issued Thursday by board chair Robert H. Schottenstein. The Associated Press reported on Mr. Gee's comments Thursday.

The board of trustees' letter was signed by Mr. Schottenstein and governance committee chair Alex Shumate, and detailed the remediation plan mentioned in the university's Thursday statement.

The letter said Mr. Gee's comments were unacceptable and detracted from its mission, and included a warning: "Although none of us expects this to be the case, should future instances take place, they could constitute cause for even more punitive action, including dismissal, and the Board will have no choice but to take such action."

The letter outlined the corrective steps that Mr. Gee must follow. Those steps included:

- Issuing personal apologies to any group Mr. Gee had offended

- Engaging a "coach" with expertise to help "facilitate a healthy, open and diverse twenty-first century higher education institution with a global presence and voice"

- Seeking the assistance of professionals who could assist with revisiting his personal communications and speechwriting processes to better align with the university's core values

- Reviewing the prioritization of his time, with a focus on more carefully selecting appropriate speaking engagements

- Using his voice to set standards for "civility, inclusion and collective aspiration."

The letter called Mr. Gee's ability to make personal connections with varied audiences one of his greatest strengths and called his sense of humor "infectious." But, it said, "on occasion your words that may be intended to bring a bit of levity to some significant issues have, in fact, had the opposite effect." As a result, it said, "instead of your words promoting and uniting us, they have sometimes embarrassed and divided us."

The letter said that the board would take Mr. Gee's future behavior into account in the course of its annual presidential performance review process, and noted that "consideration of appropriate compensation changes will be included as part of that review."

In the December meeting, which related to the realignment in which numerous schools changed athletic-conference affiliations in recent years, Mr. Gee spoke of the years in which the Big Ten Conference courted Notre Dame's membership. "The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell the rest of the week," Mr. Gee said. Notre Dame is independent in football and late last year committed to join the Atlantic Coast Conference in all other sports.

Mr. Gee also joked about the lower academic standards of the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky. He also joked about members of the Southeastern Conference not knowing how to read or write. Mr. Gee issued a public apology Thursday.
