Marquette has reached out to Carter's AAU coach Brian Coleman. Avg 15ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.1 apg. Sophomore Guard.

According to some he may be able to play next season because of the Rutgers situation.

Other schools involved are Duke, Florida, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Cincinnati, Xavier, Buffalo, Creighton.

Here are some quotes from Zagsblog...

"Right now his dad wants to talk to a few coaches and see what their plans are for him and where they see him fitting into their program"

"He's kind of open, he's looking for the best fit where he can get a chance to showcase himself."

"He will narrow it down from phone conversations about where each school sees Eli fitting into their program."

I swore I thought I read that he declared for the draft.  Did I read that or am I thinking of somebody else?

Was thinking the same thing. Run away! Go to McNeese state and score 20 points a game. I know delusion is a powerful emotion, but the aspirations of some of these players/families is ridiculous. Hey Eli, the NBA doesn't need 6'2 chuckers that hit 36% of their shots.

Otule's Glass Eye

Carter and Seagears both look like bad chuckers from their stats. They're like a college version of Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings.

Canned Goods n Ammo

I don't remember either of them well.

But, Carter's stats look like Todd Mayo 2.0.

Not a terrible thing, but I'd like to see some more offensive efficiency vs volume.

But, in theory, being on a more talented team (MU) could aid in lower usage and higher offensive efficiency.

I'll leave it to Buzz to figure out.

Superstars in the NBA. Most will take that. Those guys keep you in the game when other aren't performing, with a couple of game winners. More up side than down.

I would much rather have Seagears than Carter. Though I'd be willing to wait the year and take Sheldon McClellan over either of them. Of course, the dream scenario would be for Myles Mack to transfer as immediately eligible...

Meh.  Scores but can't shoot, doesn't do anything else particularly well.  Teams that bring in players like this to be "showcased" are teams that go 15-16.

So a college kid transferring after the program he was at gets decimated shouldn't look for the school that gives him the best opportunity to play? That's really all it says. They're just using the word "showcase" to hype his skills to potential suitors. They know they don't have that much leverage in this.

Yeah, McClellan would be great.

Yeah, McClellan would be great.

Maybe not.  From the ESPN article on McClellan's transfer: "There were times, however, when McClellan drew Barnes' ire for a lack of effort and intensity on the court."

Not a recipe for success with Buzz.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

brewcity77

Interestingly, I think Carter is the type of guy that would have had us excited a year ago. There were a lot of solid second options on offense, but not a go-to guy. While Carter isn't efficient, he is a guy that's going to get his numbers. I'm not sure he would have been good for this past year's team, but he would have certainly fit the mold of what most people thought the team needed.

Aughnanure

Why not Myles Mack? Is he not transferring?

He hasn't announced his intentions yet.  I think he would become our top priority if he does indeed transfer but I have a feeling there would be a lot of competition for him.

Hmmm...why not? There were quite a few here who advocated Blue playing the point so he could showcase that talent!

A decision made in MU's best interests, no less.  How benevolent.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
